Re: Suggestions for radio and RV camera?
Brent, I can't help you with the radio, but this year I installed a Yada wireless backup camera. The camera is mounted to rear ladder allowing easy connection to rear lights. I have it set up to only come on when the transmission is in reverse gear. The camera can also be connected to 12V power sour...

Re: leaf stains
The active ingredient for Y-10 Fiberglass cleaner gel is oxalic acid (not muriatic acid). I have used it on boats to clean waterline stains without any issues. It is very effective with little elbow grease needed. If I knew about Fels Naptha, I would have tried that first. In fact, I may try it for ...

Re: leaf stains
In addition to Ray's excellent safety comments, just a reminder to never combine bleach, ammonia and/or HCl (muriatic acid). The resulting mixture is extremely toxic. Muriatic acid (HCl) is available in gel formulation, Y-10 is one brand, but I'm sure there are other versions. It's usually available...

Re: Rubber like sealant on roof
I recently had a few roof leaks sealed. A Dicor self-leveling lap sealant was used, not a silicone caulk. The sealing process was very straightforward: clean the area and apply. I have used it on bathroom vents and around the antenna connections. YouTube has a good video demonstrating the applicatio...

Re: What do you think of Induction Cooktops?
Mel & Connie - I have the Aroma Model 509 cooktop. I have had it for almost two years and use it at home almost every day. It is very light and easy to pack for camping trips. It does heat up very fast. I burned a few things when I first started using it, now I rarely use the highest temperature...

Re: What do you think of Induction Cooktops?
Other than needing shore power and the proper cookware, it is a great cooktop for the Born Free. I have a single burner portable unit. It stores in the microwave while traveling and sits on top of the 2 burner gas stove when camping. It provides a good uniform heating source and does not add heat or...

I downloaded a free iPhone Leveling App. My phone is usually nearby when parking so I can easily check for the levelest point while pulling into a campsite. Some apps have the circular type of level that Mockturtle mentions and others are straight levels. A few digitally show the degrees of tilt and...

Dude, I have been Geocaching for a few years. I really enjoy how the search brings me to places I would not normally explore. I have a hand held GPS and the iPhone Geocache App, so I am usually ready to find a cache. This weekend I was in the northern part of the Outer Banks, an area accessible only...

I placed a teak shower/deck mat on the bathroom floor. I have a wet bath so the wood grate sits above the drain. It also adds a nice finish to an otherwise very white fiberglass room. Amazon sells them in a variety of sizes. Teak holds up very well in a moist environment and is low maintenance, too.

Sorry for my oversimplified eutectic plate description, it has been a long time since I used one. The eutectic refrigerator uses a 12 V compressor to move the refrigerant through the plate, a condenser and an evaporator. The compressor is only run long enough to freeze (or refreeze) the plate making...

Another option for refrigeration is a eutectic plate. A condenser unit is used to freeze a cold (eutectic) plate. Most systems run off a 12 volt generator or engine power. Eutectic plates are commonly used in boats since they are great for boondocking, no need for electricity. I am not sure why they...

Labor Day, I'll be heading a few miles down the road for some camping at First Landing State Park, Virginia Beach. Beautiful private, beachside campsites on the Chesapeake Bay plus plenty of maritime forest hiking trails and some geocaches to hunt. My favorite home away from home spot. Wishing every...
