Re: Alaska question

My preference is later in the summer but I’d go anytime and enjoy it. Locals say there are 2 seasons in Alaska—Winter and Construction. We’ve been in June, July and August. For the best scenery, there is more snow on the mountains earlier in the summer. If you go later in the summer the roads will b...

Re: Onan Generator issue

The thing that looks like a condenser that would seem to go with a pair of points is most likely a noise suppression capacitor. Mine probably has it too – I just don’t remember. If it is, it should allow your radio to be free of static while running your generator with the solid core plug wires. I w...

Re: Onan Generator issue

Charles, It sounds like the manifold is clean and with new gaskets it should be in great shape. Sea Foam is a good cleaner. I agree with Oliver’s theoretical assessment. When the unit is ready for fine tuning of the feedback system—in this case the governor settings, then the speed of the engine can...

Re: Onan Generator issue

The control board is located behind the front panel with the start/stop switch. Since the choke was wide open with the engine warm, you can rule out electrical connections on the choke. The control board is not an engine computer but more of a yes/no gate controller that activates items when conditi...

Re: Onan Generator issue

Charles, you Sir, are quite welcome. I hope you knock out the problem. My unit may have a condenser near the coil—I just don’t remember. The ignition module is a go, no-go device. Since your unit runs, the ignition module is working, but check the insulation on the red wire. If it turns out that the...

Re: Onan Generator issue

The Onan 4BGE Spec P should have an ignition module pickup on the flywheel with the wire going directly to the coil. It’s been 3 years since I replaced my ignition module and I don’t remember seeing anything that looked like a condenser. I’ve replaced points on older Onan twins without electronic ig...

Re: Onan Generator issue

I have the same model but mine is LP liquid instead of gasoline powered. Just a couple questions and thoughts . . . How does it run under load? Does it stumble under load or run smoothly as it should? What is the governor doing? Is it trying to correct the stumble after it occurs or could it be caus...

Re: Do you have a pet name for your Born Free?

Our Born Free is Miss Piggy. The name was bestowed by Laura's sister and came with a mascot. Kermit is our towed.
Miss Piggy is high maintenance and occasionally rides on the dash. Kermit works for a living and drives the towed.

Re: Input for coach absent of Spare tire

The lug nuts on the E-450 should be torqued to 126-170 ft lbs. I torque them to 150 pounds. If properly torqued, they can be removed with a lug wrench. We carry a mounted spare, 12 ton air/hydraulic bottle jack, air compressor and torque wrench. The jack can be operated manually with a handle or by ...

Re: Question on the air bags

We have an older coach (1999 24RB) that had a leaky air suspension. With a soapy water test, I found 3 leaks in the left side air bag from where it rubbed on the top bracket. I installed a new set made by Air Lift—kit #57131 from SDTruckSprings.com. Air Lift has a $50 mail-in-rebate on this kit unti...

Re: Mirrors

Randy,
On the Velvac model that we have, there is a large Allen bolt that sets the swing tension. It's located on the arm near the door facing to the back.

Re: Tire Balancing Beads

Instead of using scales to measure the beads into 3 ounce bags, you could divide the jar of beads evenly into 14 baggies. A slightly rounded 1/4 cup measurement will get very close to the 3 ounce weight. Another method would be to count—340 beads per bag. :) You could take whatever beads are leftove...

Re: Tire Balancing Beads

Mary, Thanks for catching this . . . it looks like the previously mentioned Crosman BB has been changed to the new one that you found. Here are the new beads that I will be using: GameFace 5000 Count Maximum Precision Black Airsoft BBs, 0.25gm (Model: 25GPB5J) http://www.amazon.com/GameFace-Maximum-...

Re: Shoreline Cable Plug Problem at Born Free Power Connecti

Mike, I found a couple photos from March when this happened. The ground and hot wires were intact—neutral was fried. The bulk of the heat damage was inside the Marinco electric box. The wires inside the cordset had very little damage. The problem was most likely caused by a weak connection on neutra...

Re: Shoreline Cable Plug Problem at Born Free Power Connecti

Oliver, Yes, but the shiny cap is very pretty! :) No argument from me on any of your points. I'm pretty good about turning off the load in the coach and the switch at the post before connecting/disconnecting the power cord. We've had the coach 3 years. I don't know what procedure was used in the 13 ...
