Does anybody know how to "dumb down" the Fan-Tastic Fan ?

Steve, you drill 4 holes (2 each side) in the vertical flange of the FF, bolt the 4 aluminum brackets with stainless steel hardware to those, then bolt the cover to the brackets. Brackets and hardware are included with the cover. Easy peasy! The complete FF, including it's organic cover, work within this vent cover.

If you wipe clean the rain sensor periodically, it works well. The sensor is the copper strip you see with the vent cover open, when you are up on the roof. A small amount of rain will get past it for a short time before it closes, not enough that I consider it a problem. I find I need to lube the vent lid mechanism once or twice a year or it sometimes jams.

So I guess when you have a Vent Cover, you don't have to worry about this?
For example like Bills picture of his vent?

This was a problem with earlier model years. You can get a new gasket from FF that will fix the problem (see the second FAQ):
