One of my thin lights goes on and off if I turn on a second. We were at IKEA and they had a LED set for cabinets and I noticed the transformer said 12vdc.stevek wrote:Nice write up. Thanks.
Has anybody converted their florescent lights over to LED?

It looks to me like like the entire "Dioder" line is 12vdc.

I wired one set to the switch and ground and I like the warm color a lot. The 5 watts are not as bright as the 2 15 watts tubes but I like the color. I've always hated florescents. Sorry K-Mart shoppers.

LEDs
I have only replaced 2 of my small reading lights with LEDs. The bayonet vase ones in fixtures next to reading chair and bedside. They are not as bright, but they run with no heat, which is good. I'll gradually replace others. THANKS for the IKEA link, Chuck. That looks like an easy fix.
Re: LED Lights
I used 2 of these strips, with remote, on my porch during the warm weather to give it that warm GLOW love em.randallrae wrote:http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=rv ... acat=50067

Re: LEDs
There are snap in tube replacements, but the ones I know of still need to rewire direct to 12V source.shezonit wrote:. THANKS for the IKEA link, Chuck. That looks like an easy fix.

I do my 12 volt wiring live. Just a couple of wires to strip plus wire nuts and your done. I'm going to use the IKEA puck lights next.
I'll pick direct or indirect lighting as it goes. Mostly, I'm just replacing fixtures that don't work well for me already.
Not exactly. These sets are 12V so you can just wire them in easy.stevek wrote:What about a direct florescent tube replacement?
Anybody have a good source where you pop out the old and replace it with an LED Tube?

Plus the 4 strips can be mounted outside the fixture case as indirect lighting
or on the baseboard or at the step level.
Or you can mount them inside the fixture or I just taped them down. Florescent voltage starts at 600-900V then
drops to 90 volts so no tubes just clip in without rewiring a bit.
Thanks Chuck.
Next time I go to Ikea, I will check them out.
I was thinking of rewiring, so some sort of tube that would replace the florescent tube, but operate at 12vdc.
