Re: Onan 4k carb removal and teplacement

Ours is the same vintage but is propane instead of gasoline. I put a starter in it. Using a floor jack, I dropped the genny front letting it pivot at the rear. I don't remember for sure, but there are 2 bolts near the front bottom corners that allow it to swing down. I did not have to disconnect wir...

Re: hot wires near circuit breakers

I don't know what changed in the later models, but I see a difference in breaker values. Your 2005 has values (left to right): 30-30-20-20-20 My 1999 has these values: 30-20-20-20-20 You might want to check the wire gauge size going to your 30-amp breakers. If either are 12ga wire, they should be on...

Re: mpg miles per gallon with Triton V-10

If the engine appears to be running fine and not throwing codes, then it could also be Brake calipers that are not fully releasing and are causing a drag. Have your mechanic jack up a front wheel. Give it a spin. If it won't continue to spin without assistance, then likely the caliper slides need to...

Re: V10 Triton Spark Plug Issues

I'm no expert on the problem but have had experience with a plug blowout in a different vehicle with the same engine. Karl Striedieck is a high mileage guru that posted an elegant solution to getting the vehicle home. While it doesn't remove the possibility of the problem occurring on the road, it w...

Re: Electrical help fried main

Just a couple observations... It appears that the ground wires in the top of the photo have a green copper patina coating on them. While copper oxide (CuO) works great to protect the Statue of Liberty, it is an insulator and not a conductor of electric current. All of these connections need to be re...

Re: Bi-Directional Isolator Relay Delay wiring - 2014 Born Free Freedom

Glad to hear you found the ground problem before incurring additional expense. Ground connections are just as important as positive wire connections. I was driving home from college when my headlights went dim. Stepped on the dimmer switch to turn on all 4 and got no additional light. Came into a to...

Re: Bi-Directional Isolator Relay Delay wiring - 2014 Born Free Freedom

You posted great pictures of the bird! Hooking up a genset wire for the bird lockout is optional. Since the momentary switch on the dash is the only way to manually activate the bird, it is highly unlikely that it could be held long enough to cause harm. Even if the generator was running and the con...

Re: Bi-Directional Isolator Relay Delay wiring - 2014 Born Free Freedom

Please find attached the manual for the 00839 bird. The wire should connect to the "coach bat" connection. Before connecting the wire, you could verify with a voltmeter 12v that should match the coach battery voltage. This wire is needed to operate the solenoid with the dash switch to manu...

Re: KODIAK EXHAUST

You're quite welcome, Bob. I needed a new 3.5" exhaust several years ago. The guys at my favorite muffler shop told me the same thing--couldn't bend 3.5" pipe. They sent me to a diesel performance shop that had everything I needed to do the job myself. They had in stock all of the common D...

Re: receiver capacity

We've towed a 6,000 trailer with our '99 24RB. Don't know what the hitch weight was from the trailer, but it was many times more than I can lift.
You should have no problem flat towing a Ranger.

Re: Overhead cabinet struts

There is a small amount of oil in the strut to keep the O-ring and rod lubricated. In the photo that Tom posted, the struts are installed upside-down. If installed as in the photo, the oil drains away from the seal and the gas escapes the dry seal. The struts will last much longer if the rod portion...

Re: Screen Door Metal Catch/Hold Replacement

I'd use Velcro. At some point ours will break as well. I've bent it occasionally to adjust the holding tension on the screen door. There are rubber bumpers on the door above and below the spring tension tab. If it breaks, I'll install 4" strips of adhesive Velcro, stuck to the door and over the...

Re: De-winterization Disaster

Bill -- Sorry to hear about your disaster. Last winter when I went to Walmart to buy RV antifreeze, the local store didn't stock the Super Tech brand. They replaced it on the shelf with a name brand which, of course, cost more. I don't know if this makes any difference in the effectiveness of the wi...

Ford Econoline E350 E450 vent switch stuck on defrost

Ford Econoline E350 E450 vent switch stuck on defrost Our air conditioner sent cold air to the defroster vents instead of the dash vents. This is a common failure on the E350/E450 vans. The problem is that a 3-inch piece of rubber vacuum hose between the check valve and the vacuum reservoir dry rot...
