Re: Low mpg

Yes it's the 460. I parked it in the front yard yesterday when we returned so I could give it a good cleaning before moving it to storage.

Re: Low mpg

Interesting Discussion. Where are the mass flow sensor wires that may require cleaning? Sounds like an easy try. As posted in another thread, we just returned from our 8 month trip across the country and back. Unfortunately we had to replace the transmission in California. We drove 10,000 miles roun...

Re: Water Pump Question

It's good to try all the suggestions. When we started heading west 8 months ago the water pump worked. The other day while boondocking it did not work, the motor just got hot, stalled. The same day my best friend, also on the road called and the check valve in his pump had failed. I have now had 5 R...

Re: BF Weight

It seems the Carrying Capacity is virtually equal to the Max ability of the axles minus the empty weight of the BF. We used to own a Class A motorhome. It was always in danger of being overweight. Our approach for all our RVs is never carry a full tank of water, always drive with empty black and gra...

Re: Newbie

Love our BornFree

We've loved traveling in our Born Free but after almost 10,000 miles of travel in it we realize there is still work to do should we want to continue using it. Now we need to decide if we want to continue upgrading the Born Free or to give our Scamp 16 another upgrade.

Re: Drawer and Cabinet latches

I replaced ours with originals that I found on line though my BF is a '93 and may not match your latches, If you look in the Newbie thread you'll see the source.

I wish everyone would include their rig model and year in their signature.

Re: Newbie

Thanks Tom for explaining 'the straw....' We have now covered over 1000 miles as we head back to Florida and continue to average over 11 mpg. We had average 10 mpg on the trip to Seattle. However after leaving Seattle and heading to LA we were averaging 9 mpg. I thought it was reluctance to go to Ca...

Re: Newbie

Transmission Failure. Driving from Florida to Seattle we averaged 10 mpg. Driving from Seattle to California we averaged 9. Crossing Tejon Pass on a really hot day, though the temperature gauge never went beyond half way, when we reached the bottom of the pass the transmission was severely slipping ...

Re: Newbie

Exclusion. We're on our Wedding Tour of the west, 3 family weddings over 8 months. Our BF is 26 years old and for two of the weddings we've run intoi the 10 year old rule. This is an exclusionary rule. In both cases we've had to send pictures of our rig before they would approve our reservations. On...

Re: Anybody Out There?

Today a California Born Free came to our Park in Port , Oregon. That now makes 5 on this trip. Later today I'll go meet the owners. The latest BF owner we met is the president of Leaping Lions. Actually we spoke for only a few minutes since they were on their way out. I do remember his wife's first ...

Re: Anybody Out There?

In our trip from FL to Washing and now to Oregon we've seen 4 Born Frees, We have had BFs in two parks we stayed in. Our's is still running well after 26 years. A friend just suggest I use in an injector cleaner in our gas tank with every fill-up. He says his engine produced significant mpg improvem...

Re: Toilet Sprayer

Our rig is 26 years old and we had to replace our sprayer. We went to Home Depot and bought sink sprayer in their plumbing parts department and installed just the sprayer. I recall it was less than $10.

Re: Dead Outlet

I replaced my Panel/Converter. When I replaced it I eliminated the GFI because I've always found them a pain in RVs. However if only one outlet is down I would check the wiring. I found a number of ganged wires, both at the breaker (the hot side) and and on the white side (return side). It is easy t...

Re: House to hood wiring?!?! 87 president 24’

Though we haven't used our jacks, they certainly don't seem critical. We have a bumper box on our rig that rides on the rear bumper. We keep 4 pieces of 2x6 that we use if we're a little out of level, I would say once every 6 camping situations.
