Re: Malodorous Motorhome

Karl, Wondering if your Born Free's toilet is the same as mine (plastic moulded Thetford) if you would be willing to share with me the gasket and seal parts numbers you replaced on your toilet? My Thetford will not hold water and I am wondering what the fix will be. Is it going to be the black rubb...

I also just use the water tank and pump for water. Water heater: if you don't use it for showers you don't need it. You can heat up water faster on the stove as you only heat what you need vs. heating all of the water tank gallons. Combine this with one of those digital temp reading guns and you can...

When I installed mine I routed the cable through the back wall and then through the floor to the undercarriage. You can easily find a way to route the cable up to the front and the E450 has a nice entry spot in the front door step wells as there are rubber plugged holes beneath the plastic cover tha...

Leaks are the bane of the RV experience and as you can tell from the replies can be difficult at times to resolve. I've fought/been fighting several this year. My adder to the discussion is to look very closely at any suspected area that may be causing the leak. Hairline cracks in caulking have ofte...

Re: trip planning

Thank you all for great tips...feeling more confident now about heading out on a long trip. I'm guessing that if you are over-nighting at Walmart or Cracker Barrel, you check with store management and perhaps make purchases or have a meal as a courtesy first? That'll be our plan I guess. We have mounted a spare on the front using a front mounted trailer hitch and a hitch spare tire mount. It has worked fine for us. The added benefit of a front spare tire is that it adds weight to the front vs the back. The front axle is usually lightly loaded and the back axle heavily loaded. Adding...

RVillage

There is a new forum, RVillage, just released in Beta that allows RV folks to find people of common interests within the same park or area. It looks like its going to be very useful so I would encourage you to check it out: www.rvillage.com I have started a group for Born Free Rvrs on the site so th...

I have seen the insides of a new Dometic 310 and it has a similar arrangement..toilet bowl, then the valve, then 10 inches of open drop through a hollow base. Since I've been working on overhauling the 15 year old Galaxy/Starlight in our RV, I know what the insides of that base will look like in a s...

Regarding boon-docking...what about solar panels? Solar panels are a great addition for boondocking. I don't tend to see the factory as an expert on solar panels but it would be worthwhile, if buying a new RV, to see if you could get the factory to add the wiring to make the RV solar panel "re...

My wish list of options I would add: inverter and heated tanks. Two I would talk to the factory of adding: a battery monitor and an in-line surge suppressor. (if the newer models don't have these) The inverter and battery monitor add to your boondocking ability. The heated tanks add to your cold sea...

That's our approach as well. Much simpler and faster than blocking and less cost, less system complexity and less weight than using levelers.

Re. Generator priming: My '99 has a single rocker switch in the panel. I read somewhere that pushing it down and holding it for a few seconds primes the generator. I have done that on times its been hard starting. I haven't noticed any significant difference in response but I'm sure it makes me feel...

It may be time to wave the white flag and look for a 2 terminal switch with an indicator. I'm not sure why they have 3 terminals but once we figure it out we may find that this switch is intended for a "normally on" switch and the red indicator only lights when you turn the switch off...me...
