The Kodiak is back!

The new Kodiak is the Silverado 5500... I wish Born Free was still around to build coaches on the new chassis.

Re: Very sick 1999 24RB

Ok here are some questions... pick the low-hanging fruit first in troubleshooting. So you have new coils, is the wiring good to #4? It could be as simple as a bad plug. Did he replace #4's plug? is the ECU throwing any codes?

Re: Renogy LiFePO4 batteries

When I bought my coach in 2015 from Pontiac RV in Pontiac IL, during the pre-delivery inspection I'd noticed that they'd replaced the two-battery setup in the tray that was dead with a single battery. I made them replace both batteries. I didn't pay much attention to what they'd replaced them WITH. ...

Re: Renogy LiFePO4 batteries

Boy you guys must really like to spend big money on replacement coach batteries. The Renogy 170 amp-hour battery costs $980 each. The Interstate SRM-31 210 amp-hour flooded cell battery costs currently $142/each. My experience running the Interstates in my 2002 BF 26'RSB using a modern 3-stage char...

Re: House to hood wiring?!?! 87 president 24’

That's a tough one. There aren't too many coaches left out there that are older than yours, and at 32 years young, there could be a LOT of aftermarket stuff that was installed and later replaced or removed. Your best bet is to do exactly what you're doing... trace the wires down as best you can and ...

Re: Refridgerators?

What are the dimensions of the opening in older Born Free's for the Fridge? What ft3 did they usually come stock with? When I buy a Born Free I'll want a big "ref". At least a 8ft3, maybe a 9ft3. What's the best brand? I know most RV's come with a Dometic, but they also have frequent prob...

Re: Furniture Replacement

Roger, did Flexsteel move their RV furniture operations from Dubuque, IA to Dallas? I don't know for sure, Bill. I know they were still there a couple of years ago... I guess I'd forgotten that they were moving. On edit: Their website still shows: FLEXSTEEL CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS 385 Bell Street Du...

I found these online.

Anyone have experience with these? Comments, opinions? Please weigh in.
Contact Flexsteel, Dallas. They can rebuild your furniture.

Re: Body repairs now very expensive

Do you have a marine/boat repair shop near that you can have give an estimate?

FWIW, Born Free stopped stocking any parts for any non-current body anyway, so they likely wouldn't have been much help even had they not gone under.

Re: Article by Owner of a Born Free in FMCA Magazine

As I'm not a very bright guy, and being denied overnighting in WalMart in Denver, I headed up for Vail Pass at midnight on I-70 last April on my way to Las Vegas. Once I was committed, there was no place to turn around. The weather was lovely in Denver... a blizzard on the pass. I made it over the ...

Re: general Born free repair and service

At the bottom of the recall notice link above the year 2007 is written. I don’t think this is current. Am I wrong? No Dallas, you're right. This is old news. From the notice: "Large Scale Dometic Refrigerator Recall Announced: Dometic Corporation is in the process of issuing recalls for over 9...

Re: general Born free repair and service

One more question, Roger. It seems that the door on our 2011, 27RSB is too narrow to accommodate the refrigerator in case we want to move it out and replace it with a new one. I'm wondering if Born Free built our coach around the refrigerator once is was put in place. Our concern is a possible leak...

Re: general Born free repair and service

Born Free coaches are a pretty generic motorhome. All of the systems are off-the-shelf, and parts are supplied by the manufacturers, either directly or through any RV dealer's parts and service department. The chassis, is of course, repaired by any dealership who works on medium duty trucks of the b...

Re: In the Hunt

Interesting questions. Born Frees will do fine on back roads. Do NOT take them anywhere you need short front and rear overhangs, or anywhere that you may drag the chassis as you’ll likely remove your plumbing. They’re not meant for off-roading. I have a 32RQ and I tow a Jeep Rubicon. There will be a...
