Charlotte: Wow!!! Thanks for the reply. Very sorry for your bad luck. Sometimes I feel that that kind of incident only happened to me. My vibration isn't all that severe, and I guess I'm fortunate to have a local tire shop that does trucks and that I trust (so far). I'm reasonably sure most of the p...

GeoTrac tires?

My wife and I recently purchased a 1999 24 ft. Born Free from an elderly couple. I was impressed by the fact that it had 6 new tires. I've noticed a vibration at 65 mph, started looking at tire info. and am getting concerned. We're planning a large (2-month, 8,000 mile) trip in about 2 weeks, and th...

Mine has about 143 hours. Does that mean I've got 20 or so to go? I seriously hope not.

I guess "high hours" isn't very specific, but how many can I expect as a "lifetime" figure before serious things go wrong?

Thanks, Mel!

The generator WAS a minus, since it wouldn't start when I got the unit. (It was mentioned by the seller). No serious problem, just corrosion around the coil terminals.

Generator Hours

I'm quite new to RV'ing, and have purchased a '99 BF with 45K miles. When we rented an RV out of Reno, there was a 3-hour per day limit on generator use, with a penalty for use above that. In many ads for RV's that I've seen for sale the low hours on the generator is a plus. Why? It's basically an e...

Thanks! How did you access the refrig-side of the panel, to run the wires and where did you pull the power for the level monitor?

SeeLevel II installation location/wiring

I've purchased the Seelevel II system for my new-to-us 1999 RB 24 ft. Born Free. I bought the model 709 without the pump & heater switches. Where did those who have installed this mount it for ease of installation and use? Anybody put one into a '99 RB? Also, did you run all new wires or where d...

Thanks for the link! It was very helpful, and the rest of his site is especially interesting.

I'm going to try cleaning the tanks with bleach, but I suspect I'll end up biting the bullet and putting in the external sensor system for its' accuracy and dependability.

Bill: I looked up that system, and was thrown off by the fact that it uses the existing wiring harness. It does, but it also uses capacitive strips on the outside of the tank, as you had said. At least now I understand the problem. The monitor in mine worked while filling-the-tank because the "...

Bill: So the probes for the gray and black water tanks are SS rods inside the tanks? (that would explain why my fresh water display is correct). If so, it's puzzling why a different set of electronics would yield better results, since the improved system uses the same probe array. I'd FAR prefer to ...

Budgeting for a year's use of a 1999 BF

We recently purchased a 1999 RB 24 ft. BF with 45K miles. New tires, full maintenance records and it checked out terrific at a Ford dealership, which recommended a tuneup & oil change ($499!). We've just come back from a short local maiden voyage, which we took to learn about the unit, its' prob...

Tank Monitoring System

On our new-to-us 1999 24' RB BF there's a light-up level display system (built into the stove hood) that seemed to work when we bought it. Recently we took it on its' maiden voyage, and watched as the black water and grey water bars rose with usage. Now that the tanks are dumped, the bars haven't mo...

SUCCESS!!

Here's the same table after repairing the problem. http://f.cl.ly/items/3u042F0X2G422F3Q1p3J/Success!.jpg I learned that the table is held level by the front panel, which is set in two grooves routed into the side panels, and that front panel was originally held in place by hot melt glue. With time,...

Bill:

I assume the auxiliary table leg hung vertically outside of the storage box when the table was put away. The former owner used shims and a prop-in leg, and I might have to do the same, but reluctantly.

Anyone disassemble the "box" that holds the table when it's stored?

I can't believe that what I have is how they originally sold the unit. Something happened somewhere. Does yours sit flat and reasonably sturdy? The PO used some shims and a makeshift leg support, but I'd like to make it work the way it was initially manufactured. I ASSUME the table was sturdy and sa...
