Re: Would you spend $949 for a Lithium RV Battery?

Not a snowball's chance in h*ll. Not when you can buy high quality Group 31 batteries for $130 each. They seem to last four or five years easily.... and are recyclable. $2000 will buy you a lot of them.

Re: Wear and Tear on my charger/converter during long BF sto

What about your engine battery? What about transeint energy losses running the engine battery down. I my case I have the engine battery tied (wired) to the 2 coach batteries. Can't remember the name of the "switch" I used to do this, but installed it myself. My Born Free is stored for abo...

Re: Wear and Tear on my charger/converter during long BF sto

How long is "long?" I store mine over the winter in November. I disconnect the chassis starter battery at the terminals, and just turn the coach switch to "off." There is no noticeable difference in the Spring in the level of the batteries when I take it out of storage in late Ap...

Re: Mold or mildew remedy

Mold remediation comes in different forms and flavors depending on where it is and what kind it is.

The first thing you need to do is to figure out where it is and what kind it is. Once you've located where and what it is, you can decide what measures to take to remediate it.

Re: Replacing running lights on 2002 26' Rear bed.....

If the bulbs still work, and it's just the amber or red lens cover you need, you should be able to find them online... and likely from multiple sources. RV dealers may have them, as will large truck stops. It's been a long time since I sold my '01 23RK, but it seems like it had Bargman clearance li...

Re: Flexsteel Captain Chairs

Here are some thoughts, Dallas... You might check with Colaw's salvage yard and see what they have in stock. You might call Flexsteel and see what it would cost to have the chairs rebuilt. And last, Indiana is chock full of RV equipment liquidation places; you might see what you can find there too...

Re: Born Free Spare Parts

Not exactly, no. As I understand it, the "new" Chinook bought the tools from the Born Free factory, but as far as I know, they're only doing B-vans right now. Any good fiberglass shop ought to be able to do any repairs or fabrication you need on the body of your coach though. And of course...

Re: Newbie

First, welcome to the Forum and Born Free ownership!!! It sounds like you've gotten quite a find! I had an '01 23' Rear Kitchen on an e450 chassis and now have an '06 32' rear queen on the Chevy Kodiak 5500 chassis. I've had five Scamps myself over the years... two 16', two 13' and a 19' "fifth...

Re: Wide Body Born Free Models

Hi Dennis! I think that only the Kodiak chassis models like our 32s were wide bodies. I don't believe that any of the one-ton chassis coaches were over 8' wide. It's been a long time since I had a conversation with Ed Newman about the Kodiak-based versions, but I think he said there were also maybe ...

Re: Help finding a replacement entry door

There are only a couple of RV door companies. I'd guess that an '02 probably used a Hehr door. http://www.hehrintl.com/9499motorhomeentrydoor.html I believe that later model Born Frees used Dexter doors http://www.dexteraxle.com/products/door-products or they may have used use Lippert doors... https...

Re: How to secure water service panel?

Your coach is several years newer than mine, so I don't know exactly how yours is equipped, but mine has a two-stage tang on the lock mechanism. It can be locked open about an inch and a half so the hose can exit the door, but the door is locked down and cannot be opened. I don't know if those are s...

Re: Front Brakes

That's a tough one without seeing them, Stan... but if you've got 105k on the rotors, they may be getting thin. That mostly means that at some point in the not too-distant future, they'll get hot, warp, and you'll be replacing them anyway. The other issue is that if they're grooved at all, and I'd e...

Re: Side Wall Separation

I will see if can figure out how to post photo. Having been to factory, think the sidewalls were framed in 1 x 2 wood. Believe the bottom frame which would be horizontal to floor might have come loose. Maybe a sidewall leak which was not noticed. Recently resealed driver side windows and above wher...
