Re: Charge Line for Toad Battery & added accessory circuits

The breakers do reset themselves—I tested them before installation but have no way of knowing if they have tripped while we travel. I used 12 gauge wire for the battery charge circuit with the 20amp breakers. I painted the breaker posts with liquid electrical tape to prevent corrosion. While you are...

Re: Charge Line for Toad Battery & added accessory circuits

Ed, Our BF model has a couch on the driver’s side making it easy to run the wires under the kitchen counter inside the coach and keep them hidden. As you are planning, I ran the wires to the front through the driver’s side rocker panel. The windshield pillar is an easy path to the top. I put a small...

Kevin, These numbers appear to refer to the same part: Alternate/OEM Part Number BRR30, BRR309, BRRF21, YC2J2C501EA, YC2Z1V102EA. RockAuto lists these two for $134.79: MOTORCRAFT BRRF21 http://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=1832650 MOTORCRAFT BRR309 http://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=83...

Re: Do you use your fridge all year? How often do you defros

Ralph, John, Thanks for the notes. I will keep the fridge on and defrost as needed. I replaced the propane burner a couple years ago but other than that it’s been trouble free. Maybe keeping it on will prolong its life a little. – Chuck

Re: 2nd New Tranny

Jeremy put a magnet in the pan before he installed it. I’m pretty sure there was one in the old pan, too. Brian said the Motorcraft pan filters do a great job. His service instructions are to drain and drop the pan at 30k miles and replace the filter. If the fluid and everything looks good, reinstal...

Re: 2nd New Tranny

Mark -- That’s an excellent question. I fully expected Brian to tell me a larger tranny cooler would be required. When I talked with him on the phone before the appointment, Brian said the vans do not require a larger tranny cooler (he’s done lots of ambulances). He said vans have enough of a coolin...

Do you use your fridge all year? How often do you defrost?

I used to defrost the fridge after every trip. It was basically a cleanup operation after turning off the power after a trip. Then there was the need to turn on the fridge a day before we traveled again. It seemed a hassle to defrost the fridge after every trip and remember to turn it back on before...

Re: 2nd New Tranny

Curt & Jo, I hope your transmission troubles are now behind you. Thank you for posting the messages on your transmission problems. As painful as it must be for you, your messages are helping others. As a result of your post last year, I decided to do something about the noisy torque converter in...

Re: 2002 26 rsb sway bars and steering stabilizer

Thank you for the note. We have no plans to sell. We haven’t spun a tire on a boat ramp which is the most likely place that we would need 4WD. The weight of the Born Free provides plenty of traction on the rear axle for boat ramps and winter snow in the Midwest. For off-road sightseeing, our towed i...

Re: 2002 26 rsb sway bars and steering stabilizer

Richard, We use the Born Free bumper hitch to pull our 18 foot Mac-Lander car hauler—an open flatbed tandem axle trailer (another Iowa product). We also tow a Mercury Mariner Hybrid 4-down with a Blue-Ox baseplate and Blue Ox Aventa Towbar. I also installed a Unified Tow Brake from U.S. Gear. Our co...

Re: 2002 26 rsb sway bars and steering stabilizer

David, We’ve been pleased with the handling improvements that came from the Hellwig anti-sway bars, alignment bushings set to +5 caster, and new lower ball joints. Roadmaster bars would also be a good choice. You might be pleasantly surprised at how well the Twin I-beam suspension can work with a co...

Re: Input for coach absent of Spare tire

Justin, You have a diesel engine and may not be in dire straits for weight on the on the front axle. Cooling for the transmission would be my biggest concern with the location of the front mounted spare. If you have a transmission temperature gauge, you can watch it and see how much the spare tire a...

Re: Rotating rear tires

Randallrae, your tire appears to have the same wear pattern as mine.
Looking at the sipes in the photo, it looks like there is less tread depth on the inside edge.

Re: Rotating rear tires

Thanks for the advice and replies. ----Bill, the Borg valve stems would make it difficult to rotate the duals. Rotating the duals would not be necessary if the tires are replaced for age instead of wear. ----Ralph, the 4 rear tires were made 2 weeks after the recalled date range. We keep the rear pr...

Rotating rear tires

Rotating rear tires — I used to like the idea of mounting the rear dual tires and running them as a set until replacement. This works fine if the tires get old and need to be replaced before they wear out. But, I’m going to start rotating the rear dual tires. We wore out a set in 3.5 years at 45k mi...
