AIR BAG INFLATION PRESSURE
The Born Free factory's recommended inflation pressure for the two rear air bags (not shocks) is 55 psi. On the two BF's that I have owned up to the present time, both had a red decal near the inflation fittings on the side of the fiberglass motorhome body indicating that recommended pressure. But s...

Michelin LTX or XPS Rib Tires?
Approximately 3 or 4 years ago, the Ford factory started delivering E-350 and E-450 bare chassis to the motohome manufacturers with Michelin LTX tires in place of the previous Firestone Steeltex tires. Actually I have had no problems with the Firestone tires having run them for 55,000 miles on my fi...

OUTSIDE SHOWER WATER LINES
Mike and Jean, Nice to know that additional info. However, if you were to shut off those valves, would you not have water trapped in those lines going up to the outside shower system that could still freeze and burst those lines? I would be worried about freezing both those inside hot and cold lines...

CONVERTING TO THE WINEGARD 'BATWING' SENSOR III TV ANTENNA
For those Born Free owners that currently have the Delta TV antenna installed, much improved over the air TV reception can be had by replacing that antenna with the Winegard 'Batwing' Sensor III TV antenna with the built-in signal pre-amplifier. As far as I know on most Born Free models, the Batwing...

OUTSIDE SHOWER WATER LINE PROTECTION
Jeff,
I assume your 2002 24' RB has an outside shower on the left side like my 2002 26' RSB. How do you protect the water lines feeding that shower assembly on cold outings?

Winegard Model RV-5085 non-amplified Sensar III antenna?
Barb & Bill, That would seem to make sense to me but you might want to check with Kim Olson at the Born Free factory to make sure that would work. One thing though, did you mean RV-5095 rather than RV-5085 non-amplified antenna? I also noted that Winegard recommends in the link I mentioned above...

FREEZING WATER LINES
Ann P, Be careful if that 22 degree temperature hangs around too long. Running the furnace and keeping the cabinet doors open will help but there are other water lines that that heat will not reach. You and I have the same 26' RSB and I froze some water lines this March 2006 on an overnight stay in ...

Winegard Batwing Antenna Conversion
John, Before my conversion to the Delta antenna, the TV wallplate had a slide switch with a red indicator light that both turned the antenna pre-amp on and off and at the same time switched between the Delta antenna and the cable TV input jack on the left side of the coach. After I had the factory i...

TOWING RECOMMENDATIONS
5865, As Mel has advised above, 4-down towing is the way to do it and also use a motorhome mounted tow bar system rather than one that stays attached to the toad. The tow caddy method just adds additional weight and also causes storage problems on where to put the caddy while in a campground. In my ...

COACH BATTERIES
Ann P, If you are serious about taking care of your coach batteries and plan on doing a significant amount of dry camping, you may want to consider replacing the 45-amp single-stage charger/converter section of your existing Parallax/Magnetek 7345 Power Panel with a good replacement 3-stage converte...

GRAY WATER TANK SIZE IN 26' REAR BATH
Trish, I am glad you had a good time and enjoyed Alaska. The main reason that you have a 21 gallon gray water tank and a 35 gallon black water tank in your 26' Rear Bath versus the reverse that I have in my 26' Rear Side Bed unit is most likely because the two coaches have the same tanks mounted in ...

SPARE TIRE AND WHEEL STORAGE LOCATION
I carried a spare tire and wheel in my prior 1999 BF 24' RB coach and also carry the same spare in my current 2002 BF 26' RSB coach. In both units, the tire fits nicely thru the outside storage door under the Flexsteel sofabed - on the left side of the coach for the 26' RSB and on the right side in ...

WIDER TIRES!
Sab and Ann, Increasing the tire size width by changing from the current tire size LT225/75R16E to LT245/75R16E most likely would require wider steel rims and I am sure it would require these new rims to have a wider offset for the rear duals. If the 245 size tires were installed on the present rims...

REASON WHY NOT TO USE SYNTHETIC OIL IN YOUR BORN FREE
Below is recopied an earlier post of mine pointing out that if your Born Free spends significant time in storage, it may not be best to use synthetic engine oil in that case. Not to cloud the synthetic vs petroleum oil issue too much further, but here is some info from Aviation Consumer magazine som...

Vent Cover Interference with Winegard Batwing TV Antenna?
John, I have the Winegard Batwing antenna on my 2002 BF 26' RSB and I know of a local 1999 BF 24' RB owner that has a vent cover on his BF and has the Delta antenna. I don't know if his vent cover is a MaxxAir unit or not but it looks rather large to me. The Winegard Batwing installs in the same loc...
