Microwave
The microwave oven in our 1998 24' RB got nuked due to a lightening strike and we're looking to replace it with an identical item to make installation easier. It's a Panasonic Dimension 4. Anyone know of a source for this discontinued item? I've tried eBay. Or has anyone substituted a different unit...

We just returned from eight days around the Bay of Fundy. We started with a ferry crossing (about $250) for the 24' BF (dogs stay in RV) from St Johns NB to Digby NS. We stayed at Provincial Parks along the eastern shore of NS, up around the Bay and back down to Maine. The parks had no hook ups but ...

The clutch on the engine fan that is supposed to engage around 215 degrees failed so that the temperature on the Scan Gauge kept going up on a hard, uphill pull. I let it get to 240, whereupon the check engine light came on and it started to boil over. An immediate pull over and throwing water on th...

The suit states that the Norcold refrigerators in question (6,8,12 cubic feet)have and are failing at a rate of 365 to 720 per year. The failures cause the pressurized gases in the refrigerator to escape and ignite, often destroying the RV and, in one case, cause death. My 98 RB has a Norcold unit, ...

Bill, I haven't gotten around to installing the OEM (Ford) fan clutch yet. I'm going to check for clogged radiator fins first. I'll try to get it done soon while there is some hot weather to test it. NAPA said they would honor the warranty, but that would be another after-market clutch. I'll post th...

I agree that the first thing to check is the fan clutch, although I'm not sure how you can tell by looking at it. It will turn some even when engine is cool. The best way is to rev up the engine and listen for a loud howl such as comes from big trucks when they are accelerating. The fan clutch on my...

My 98 RB has disc brakes on the front, drums on the back. I replaced the pads and rotors at 96K and 166K. Usually no major player in the brake maintenance business will turn the rotors as the specs for how much thickness must be left is usually not there. Also, rotors don't cost all that much as I r...

Refrigerator Problem
The Norcold 962 in our '98 24RB shuts down 30 seconds after LP light off with an A 1 fault. I replaced the flame sensor thermcouple to no avail. Connection is good The flame is good and the flame sensor gets red hot. The igniter keeps sparking for the entire 30 seconds prior to shut down. Gas supply...

We've had two leaks similar to the ones noted here. The first was water coming from behind the toilet and was corrected by tightening the wingnut that connects the water supply. The second was water dripping down above and toward the outside of the water pump in our 24RB. This was also corrected by ...

Correction to the previous post. As the photo shows, the shim goes between the BF extended bumper/hitch channel and a steel cross member below the floor. Incidentally, the plywood that BF uses for the floor is thick, heavy duty treated stuff and will not crush or flatten because of the squeeze from ...

The shim is a section of square steel tubing cut to fit the gap between the floor and the frame. It is welded in place. A flat plate with a couple holes for sheet metal screws could substitute for the welding, as its sole purpose is to keep the shim in place should the bolts get loose. I've had no p...

Vertical loads on the bumper-mounted towing hitch should be of concern to BF owners. A Toad puts no significant stress on the hitch, but a 35-foot long glider trailer does, and a friend with an identical 24RB had the overlap joint between the Ford frame and the BF extension fail. See Tom's photograp...

When switching to gas the light off is fine and the flame looks excellent, but the igniter and flame sensing thermocouple don't get the message so it shuts off as a precaution against unburned gas accumulating and making an explosion hazard. I'll clean the contact where the thermocouple connects as ...
