Re: Diesel advantages over gas

My experience: Cons: - The 2005 6.0 Powerstroke had some issues with the oil cooler and turbo sump that required a $5K after market upgrade and the continued use of a cetane boost additive. Ford did nothing to fix or reimburse for the product deficiencies and I'm pretty PO's about that still. - The ...

Hmmm. I'm wondering what that thing is gonna do when you go thru one of those roller coaster driveways where the drag wheels normally engage :?: :?: :?:

Re: Does anybody carry tire chains.

Anybody ever had this experience? Its a Truck sliding out of control. It has a happy ending :D IN CA on Interstate 80. Been over that pass many times, but never in RV./ Looks like that truck lost air and the chp gave him an escort to a safe stopping area. Our local city and schools use Onspot chain...

Re: Question on TV with ac/dc "brick"

Thanks everyone for great info. Next question..why do they even make such a "brick" TV? It is not advertised as a ac/dc TV. What not just have straight 110 volt. I have even seen a 32 inch TV at Costco with a "brick". The TV mfr can sell the same TV design/unit into all the worl...

Re: Happy Thanksgiving! Need help with water tank issue!

Bill's suggestion is the safest. We've also always made it a habit to only turn on the pump when needing to use water and insure it is off when driving or sleeping. If you really like the pressure and convenience of city water, you can minimize the risk by shutting the valve between the tank and the...

Re: Does anybody carry tire chains.

Sounds like you've got it figured out. Rolling the inside dual onto a board lifting the outside dual off the ground can make it easier to get a snug fit. The best way to deal with the snowy roads is wait at home or find a park at the bottom of the mountain and wait for the sun to come out. (It's one...

Re: House Batteries - 6V vs 12V

I always figured that 2x12v were a good option because if one goes out/bad for some reason, at least you can function on the other one. That would be true if the failure resulted from an internal open - but how often does that happen? More often, when a parallel battery fails it takes out it's mate...

Re: Air Tabs?

Are there instructions on best placement? The BF's broad radius corners make me wonder if there aren't unique concerns about airflow and proper positioning. Over the last year there has been quite a few new Youtube videos. The Air Tab company's videos answer some questions. The end user vids show a ...

Steve, I tend to be like the clockmaker who you ask for the time and he tells you how the clock works. Roger's link helped me find another that explains more about motors in bites that can be digested in increments for the engineers and RV owners. http://m.ecmweb.com/content/how-save-your-motors-dur...

Re: Mindless thoughts on a Newell 43' bus and my Born Free 3

This may be a little late to get into this thread, but do you have any pictures of "Victorian French Whorehouses"? Never having been in one I am at a loss on visualizing the layout. Jim I'm curious Jim, Roger posted that 2 days ago. Have you been thinking about this since then? :? Maybe a...

Re: Mindless thoughts on a Newell 43' bus and my Born Free 3

My perception of owning a Prevost was being tethered to a life with the semis and big rigs, interstate highways and RV 'resorts'. It's like with the Born Free I put up with that until I get to where I'm going (i.e., family, friends, wilderness) but in a big rig it's your destination. Just my $.02. -...

Re: When only a 20 Amp plug is available, what can I run?

In reading over this thread it occurred to me that it is very easy to overlook factors other than extension cords that may contribute to AC load problems. - The number of other RVs connected to your circuit and the number of ACs running. - The length of the run to your pedestal. Is your favorite spo...

Re: House Batteries - 6V vs 12V

The problem with batteries connected in parallel is that unless they are perfectly matched (and they can never be perfectly matched) they will set-up parasitic currents that will always be flowing back and forth. Over time this will result in a slight drain and a gradual deterioration. Obviously, ba...

Greetings from Tanzania

This is a bit off topic but we all do love to travel. We miss our Born Free here in East Africa. Strange how camping in the US is so much more luxurious than simple everyday living in other parts of the world. We've been here 9 days now and have not seen a single RV anywhere in this country. We'll b...
