Re: Wintertime - 2002 RB 24 foot
Bonnie, We have used our coaches (2006 24RB and 2017 Spirit (24RB)) in weather down to 17 degrees Fahrenheit. We just use a 1500 watt electric heater in the coach, run the hot water heater, and keep all the rear cabinet doors open. So far we have had no problem. As a matter of fact, when we picked u...

Re: Happy Independence Day, fellow Born Free owners!
Steve, yes it gets dark enough that you can see some stars. It's sort of like full dusk. The only light is from the sun's corona, which is not all that bright, but a spectacular sight. It shimmers! What I found amazing at the eclipse I saw in 1970 was the sound of the throng as the shadow came racin...

Re: Happy Independence Day, fellow Born Free owners!
Good luck to all of you trying to get a glimpse of the eclipse. I saw the one on the DelMarVa peninsula in 1970. I was very fortunate. The weather the day before, up to 2 AM of the day of the event was rainy, but a front was due to sweep it all out by 4 AM. My father and I made the trek down from ce...

Re: HELP CLASS B SHORE POWER ISSUE 220/110
landlordy, I looked at the manual for your unit. It appears you have a remote control panel. The manual says in this case that the power switch on the unit should be left off in this case. I presume the remote control panel somehow overrides the switch on the unit. I am beginning to wonder if it is ...

Re: HELP CLASS B SHORE POWER ISSUE 220/110
You keep saying you have no shore power, but I am not sure you can really say that. Certainly your inverter isn't seeing shore power, but non-inverted AC appliances should be seeing shore power, as they don't go through the inverter. Plug into shore power and see if the air conditioner runs. If it d...

Re: HELP CLASS B SHORE POWER ISSUE 220/110
I see no reason why that should be a problem, but I am certainly no expert. That said, if I were you, I'd go for it, especially if you have easy access to the inverter to uninstall it. My Outback was mounted under the coach, and at my age, I don't crawl around under coaches any more! As for the air ...

Re: HELP CLASS B SHORE POWER ISSUE 220/110
One last thing. We were still able to use our coach while waiting to get diagnosis and fix. When running our coach engine, it charged the batteries (running the engine for 20-30 miutes twice a day kept our batteries topped up). Our major appliances were not running off the inverter, so when plugged ...

Re: HELP CLASS B SHORE POWER ISSUE 220/110
Doing a web search, it appears that Xantrex took over the Freedom line of inverter/chargers. Xantrex is still in business, so they may have units that would utilize that remote panel. If not, they may have something similar that could be installed the same way. Wallet will be a bit thinner when you ...

Re: HELP CLASS B SHORE POWER ISSUE 220/110
I had a similar issue with my Outback inverter/charger. My AC input got fried, unfortunately due an installation problem by Born Free (neutral wire not securely attached causing the AC input to overheat). My symptoms were similar. I was not getting AC input, my batteries were not charging when plugg...

Re: HELP CLASS B SHORE POWER ISSUE 220/110
Also, from what I can find on the web, that Freedom 10 is not a converter/charger, it is an inverter/charger. Here is a link to a PDF of the owner's manual,if you do not have one: http://www.bdub.net/manuals/Heart_Freedom_10.pdf There are a number of inverter/chargers on the market that you could us...

Re: HELP CLASS B SHORE POWER ISSUE 220/110
Not sure what you mean when you say your panel does not say connected to AC. I have owned much newer coaches than yours - a 2006 and a 2017. Neither one has a panel that I would say shows something like connected to AC. Perhaps a photo would help. That said, if your microwave and 110 outlets are wor...

Re: Daytime running lights (DRL)
Cooooool. May have to do this myself. Of course you have to remember to engage it whenever you get in the cab, but that is probably easier than remembering to turn off your lights. Joe, not Lucinda, who forgot to turn off his lights at Old Faithful. Always carry jumper cables, and hope you find a ki...

Re: Solar Wiring
I don't think they were pre-wired for solar. As far as I can tell our 2017 Spirit (24 RB) is not. Perhaps the original poster has at least one solar panel and wants to add another.

Re: Speculation, but
Actually, Ford is still making the E series vans, but only in cutaway version. Since the cutaway chassis is what Born Free uses, they were not in danger of losing that chassis on which to build.

Re: Letter from new Born Free President & CEO Jeff Butler
MarkB, I can't remember what he said, but Ray and Sam Ryan would get into spitting matches with each other on this list. Both eventually got banned from the list sometime in 2015, which I see is before your time. You can still see some of Ray's posts, but Sam's have all disappeared. I think he must ...
