Roger, I just checked and yes we do have it set on auto. When I ran the generator the propane light on the display panel went out and the refrigerator switched to AC. Dave, what are you powering the refrigerator with while you're driving, propane or the generator/AC?

If you're running it on propane, it sounds like perhaps you're missing a baffle and the burner can't stay lit, but does fine when the airflow stops.
