FORT DODGE IOWA BORN FREE NATIONAL RALLY: JUNE 18 – 21, 2009
Hosts: Robert and Mitzi Scott

Fort Dodge, Iowa was the setting for the 3rd bi-annual Born Free National Rally, skillfully organized and hosted by Bob and Mitzi Scott. This rally’s full agenda offered fun as well as valuable information to expand the enjoyment of one’s motorcoach.

To kick off the Rally, a friendly get-acquainted wine social and potluck dinner was held Thursday evening. Early Friday, the hearty Born Free Factory Adjustment Crew, on site all day, performed countless goodwill adjustments -- doors, hinges, shades, awnings -- that were greatly appreciated. Seminars were held: Bill Hemme led an informative
Wi-Fi discussion; George Boley conducted his window-shade restringing symphony; Ramona Birdsell, with cheerful help from the ladies, produced a magnificent Ladies Tea/Luncheon. Though menfolk were not invited to Tea, it must be told that many of them hung about for the delectable leftovers. Following this elegant event, Bill Hemme held a serious seminar on Electrical Converters. Dinner on Friday night was catered, with entertainment by the delightful and talented Jurassic Barbershop Quartet.

Each morning a delicious breakfast was served by service groups from Fort Dodge.
Saturday activities included a wonderful Painting Class led by Ramona Birdsell. A valuable seminar was given on Fire Department Extinguishers. Another highlight was the Technical Seminar, manned by a panel of Leap’n’Lions tech experts and moderated by George Boley. Several members displayed clever and ingenious adaptations to their Born Free coaches. On-site inspection of the four new 2009 Born Free motor coaches was an on-going and popular activity.

At our annual membership meeting, ably led by President Mel Wilbur, new officers were elected and an innovative Raffle was held, followed by the catered dinner, compliments of Dodgen Industries. John Dodgen, chairman, addressed the Rally with charm and wit.

We are grateful to Bob and Mitzi Scott for their diligent work in leading this well-organized event with imagination and grace, and for all the hard-working volunteers who helped make the Rally so successful.
