2009 Lake Winnipesaukee, NH Rolling Rally

September 14-20, 2009

Rally Hosts: George and Sue Boley

The New Hampshire Lakes Region Rally, graciously hosted by George and Sue Boley, has to be considered the perfect finale to Summer 2009. Outstanding weather combined with a very organized and bustling itinerary made for a most enjoyable time for everyone. And, oooohhhh, the food!

Day 1 we were cheerfully met at the Faith Community Bible Church in Louden where we began new (and renewed old) friendships with fellow rally goers. We were served a delicious church supper (complete with home-baked pie) and entertained by the church’s youth group. The church parking lot made a safe and quiet dry-camping spot for the night.

Day 2 began with a short drive to the Canterbury Shaker Village where we were provided a private tour and offered a glimpse of life lived by this religious sect. A typical Shaker lunch was served and we were free to roam the grounds and buildings for the afternoon. We traveled individually about 50 miles to our campground in Meredith where we enjoyed full hookups, morning coffee klatches and evening campfires complete with sing-alongs and harmonica serenades by Francis Shiebout.

Day 3 we boarded a private dining car on the restored Winnepesaukee Railroad and traveled down the shore of the lake while being served a hand-carved turkey dinner with all the fixin’s. We spent the rest of the afternoon walking off our dinner, browsing local shops in Meredith such as Mill Falls Village and the Annalee Doll outlet.

On Day 4 we were shuttled to the largest steamboat meet in North America where we observed dozens of antique and reproduction boats and chatted with their owners. A short walk brought us to the Loon Center where we learned about the amazing loon. Other stops on this day’s itinerary included a tour of the Castle In The Clouds, a buffet lunch and some time to shop in the oldest general store in America, in operation since 1781, and the New Hampshire Artisan Shop.

Day 5 we drove to the hamlet of Wolfeboro, known as “the oldest summer resort in Americaâ€
