2018 Paso Robles Wine Country Rally Recap - May 7-11, 2018

Post by bfadmin »

2018 Paso Robles Wine Country Rally, May 7 – 11

Seventeen coaches from California, Washington, Oregon and Nevada joined together at Wine Country RV Resort on May 7 to 11, 2018. Thirty-one Club members met the first evening to enjoy the SW Region’s traditional heavy appetizer dinner. Three were attending their first Leap’n Lions Rally and one of these couples was attending their first RV rally of any kind. All were welcomed by Phyllis (VPSWR) and Jim Howard in the private clubhouse we made our rally “home”. After dinner, attendees received a surprise gift of RV-motif pillow cases handcrafted by member Wendy Schwerin.

The second day all met in the clubhouse for a light coffee cake breakfast and then visited, or joined Wendy to paint rocks, until lunch. Lunch was a Santa Maria-style barbecue, a type of barbecue that is local and revered among barbecue aficionados. The barbecue was catered by the Paso Robles High School Culinary Arts Academy. The food was so excellent and abundant that all leftovers (there were none left of the great brownie-type desserts) were enjoyed again for dinner. Dinner was followed by a helpful discussion of members’ problems and solutions regarding their coaches, as well as helpful hints between members.

Day Three was a free day. Seven members took the optional wine tour offered by Grapeline Wine Tours, visiting four wineries and enjoying a catered lunch. Thirteen members went on Captain Stew’s Bay Cruise of Morro Bay. The captain kept us well informed and we were entertained by the otters, especially a baby otter crying for its mother and their joyful reunion. After the cruise, fish and chips lunches were enjoyed bayside at Giovanni’s Restaurant upon recommendation of Don Bedard. Other attendees visited wineries on their own, visited the town of Cayucos, or visited the quaint beach town of Cambria. We had a snack potluck back at the clubhouse, talked about the upcoming Reno and New Mexico rallies, and ended with a rousing game of indoor bocce ball, led by gamemaster Ken Giannotti.

Our last day some of the attendees spent the morning at the Estrella Warbird Museum, followed by the Pioneer Museum. We gathered that evening for another snack potluck, followed by jokes by Greg Grebe and Bev Bedard, and Ken again led all in games.

The rally ended with the making of a video of all of us in front of our own coaches, waving, shouting the Club and Born Free names, joined by the voices of some of our dogs and even waves from some non-Club people at the RV park.
