Kitchen Counter Extensions

I saw a RSB, owned by full timers, that had some great kitchen mods. The first and easiest was:
* Top kitchen drawer under cooktop: use some silverware trays of equal height and then add a thin piece of wood cut to drawer size to lay on top. Voila! Instant extra counter space. Hers was nicely finished.
Second:
*Replace the clear panel between sink and sofa( in RSB model). They had a wooden panel made that was hinged to lay flat to the right of the sink, creating a good space for the dish drainer, or to use as a serving area. It extended about 18 inches over the sofa. When folded upright, it has a brass sliding lock. Hers was nice oak stained to match the cabinets.
