Come to New Mexico for this rally and then continue on to Iowa for the Club’s National Rally! This area is a favorite of your hosts and we would like to share it with you. We will be staying at an upscale RV resort with pull-through sites and a lovely rally room. It is walkable (but more likely we will carpool) to the small town of Mesilla, a town with a rich Civil War and Wild West history and a National Historic Site downtown square.

Monday, May 6:

1:00 pm: Start checking in.

6:00 pm: Heavy appetizer potluck in the RV resort’s rally room (no kitchen).

Tuesday, May 7:

10:30 am: Walking tour of Mesilla by Princiliana Sandoval of La Morena Walking Tours. She will give us the scoop on Billy the Kid, the ghosts in the Double Eagle restaurant and the late Katy Griggs who founded the La Posta restaurant (see below).

11:30: Luncheon at La Posta de Mesilla, founded in 1939 and memorable in interior as well as New Mexican cuisine. We will choose from seven entrees from a menu created for us which will include beverage and a sopaipilla served with honey for dessert.

Afternoon on your own visiting the special shops around the downtown square.

In the evening, we will meet in our rally room for a potluck happy hour. We may play games.

Wednesday, May 8:

In the morning, visit the famous Las Cruces Farmers Market which features handcrafted home or gift items, as well as produce, on your own. If you are a book lover, visit the COAS bookstore on Main, one of the largest of its kind in the Southwest.

In the afternoon, we will go to either Museum Mile in Las Cruces, or the historic sites in Mesilla. Your hosts will provide further information at the rally and will find out what your interests are.

6:00 pm: Catered loaded baked potato bar in the rally room. After dinner, we will share technical information about our RVs to help each other out.

NOTE: All catered meals listed are planned at this time to meet the newsletter deadline. Your hosts may choose other caterers before the rally, but will stay within the budgeted amount. We will notify registrants after the registration deadline if we have changed the meals in any way. The La Posta luncheon is definite.

Thursday, May 9:

8:00 am: Breakfast in our rally room: ham, egg and cheese casserole, grits, gravy, biscuits, bacon, and fried apples. Bring your coffee.

1:00 pm: Guided tour of the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Museum. There is plenty of RV parking space. This is a living museum, part of the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs. This museum gives a look at farming and ranching throughout New Mexico history, through its many indoor and outdoor exhibits. There are orchards that produce nuts and fruit that we never knew grew in New Mexico. We will see the animals that have been raised here. We will also have a unique demonstration just for us.

6:00 pm: Dinner in our rally room: Smoky Southern grilled chicken breasts, mashed potatoes and gravy, mixed green salad, green beans, corn muffins, and blackberry cobbler.

After dinner, we will talk about upcoming rallies and take our group picture.

Friday, May 10:

Say our good-buys and check out by 1:00 pm.

The cost for two people per coach is $279. For a coach with one person, the cost is $212.

To register for this rally please make checks payable to James Howard and mail check and completed reservation form to: James Howard, PO Box 411, Corona del Mar, CA 92625-0411.
