This rally will be in Banning, a town surrounded by gorgeous panoramic views of the San Jacinto Mountains. The campground is nestled in the foothills before you incline to mile-high Idyllwild. With convenient interstate access, you can drive 22 miles east to Palm Springs. If there is sufficient interest, we will travel 22 miles west to tour Kimberly Crest mansion in Redlands, and/or 15 miles north to Oak Glen to visit Rileys Farm.

Monday, October 28:

Check in to Banning Stagecoach KOA starting at 2:00 p.m. In the evening, we will have our traditional heavy appetizer potluck in Clubhouse 2. There is a kitchen in the clubhouse.

Tuesday, October 29:

We will start our day with a light coffeecake breakfast, bringing over our own coffee, in the Clubhouse.

This will be followed by a carpool to the optional French Chateau-style Victorian, Kimberly Crest House and Gardens in Redlands. This mansion is a well-preserved sample of the Victorian era in California, is a California Historical Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This tour involves climbing stairs and some standing. After the tour, you may wish to stay for lunch at Martha Green’s Eating Room, or Caprice Café, both 6 miles away, still in Redlands.

You will have free time in the afternoon for visiting the Desert Hills Premium Outlets in Cabazon or just visiting.

In the evening, we will have a macaroni and cheese and salad dinner in the clubhouse, followed by a discussion of any difficulties we may be having with our coaches. We will also discuss our plans for Halloween.

Wednesday, October 30:

We will start our day with a light coffeecake breakfast.

In the morning, carpools will leave for the optional visit to Rileys Farm in Oak Glen (Southern California’s apple country). We will enjoy two activities: archery and a hayride around this apple orchard, followed by a luncheon of chicken pot pies, salad, and apple crisp at the Farm’s Hawks Head colonial tavern, served by staff in 1770’s attire.

In the evening, we will meet at the clubhouse for a potluck happy hour, followed by a discussion of upcoming rallies and the taking of our group picture. We can sit around the park’s campfire and/or play games.

Thursday, October 31:

Halloween! We will be staying close to Banning to avoid traffic.

We will start our day with a light coffeecake breakfast.

This is a good day to enjoy the peace and quiet of the town of Idyllwild.

In the early afternoon, we will visit the Malki Museum in Banning, the oldest non-profit museum founded by Native Americans on a California Indian reservation. Wear walking shoes as you may want to tour the garden. There is no charge for this visit; donations are appreciated.

At the recommendation of the campground, we will have a “grown-ups” Halloween dinner at the Morongo casino. Plan to spend a maximum of $39.00 per person for the steak and lobster buffet, but there are many options for dining at the casino for all price ranges and preferences. We will decide what we want to do as a group on Tuesday night.

Friday, November 1:

Say our goodbyes and check out by 11:00 a.m.

Notes:

1. Included in the basic fee (without options) is your site, coffee cake in the morning, and the macaroni/cheese and salad dinner Tuesday evening.

2. The events do not have space for RV parking, so we will be car-pooling. If history is any guide, we will have enough cars for everyone who needs a ride, but we can’t guarantee it. Nonetheless, we encourage you to sign up for the optional events you’re interested in, even if you won’t be bringing a car. Registration for the optional events during the rally will not be possible. As soon as the registration deadline has been reached, your hosts will assess from the registration forms whether there will be sufficient cars to transport everyone to the optional events. If there are not, those of you who have paid for the optional events will be notified, based on date of registering for the rally, so you can decide whether you want to proceed or wish to cancel with a refund.

Rally Fees:

Two per coach $189; one per coach $172
Kimberly Crest House & Gardens, Group Tour (optional): $10 per person
Riley's Farm, Luncheon with activities (optional): $35 per person

Registration / cancellation deadline: August 28
