2009 See Nothing, Do Nothing Rally

Sixteen Born Free coaches gathered at beautiful little Chipmunk Crossing RV Park just outside West Plains in south central Missouri on June 12th through 15th. Now, we were told by our hosts Leroy and Lois Molsbee that we could take any old cow trail to get there, but I believe all of us arrived via highway 63.

We all gathered for wine, cheese and crackers to meet old and new friends. Our campground owner/hostess, Lory, followed this up with a raffle for prizes. Her husband Peter and his brother Bill Muellner showed slides and told about hiking the Appalachian Trail from start to finish. They graciously answered our questions and were great entertainment.

A campfire with singing and story telling brought the evening to a close, although one maverick was glued to the final Stanley Cup game on the TV in the exercise room.

The next day dawned sunny and hot. After juice, coffee and donuts, we sought our own entertainment. Some enjoyed nearby sights. Many stayed in camp. The men gathered, visiting each others coaches to see their modifications and offer each other helpful hints. The women also gathered to visit, but when it became really warm, enjoyed the pool provided by the campground.

Many enjoyed afternoon siestas before gathering together with their pot luck offerings to supplement the delicious pork or chicken provided by Leroy and Lois. Before a repeat of the previous nights campfire, we were entertained by “Sunny Side Up’ an Ozark Mountain Blue Grass ensemble that invited our own spoon playing virtuoso, George Boley, to join in with them.

Flag Day began with a catered breakfast of biscuits and sausage gravy plus all the fixin’s. Yum! Some campers again enjoyed local attractions while others enjoyed the opportunity to lay back and ‘do nothing’. For those interested, Leroy provided a showing of a video about the history of Missouri in the afternoon.

Our catered dinner was provided by the Born Free factory. Many enjoyed the cat fish while others preferred the chicken. But all enjoyed the conversation with old friends or new acquaintances.

Before our evening program, we again had a raffle for the table centerpieces made by Lois and a select few other goodies provided by the Molsbees. But the highlight of the day was the evening program entitled “Remembering Mansanarâ€
