April Fools Day Rolling Rally

Post by jlef123 »

It was a dark and stormy day. No really, trees were down, Tractor trailers blown on their sides on I-95 and many places without electricity but this intrepid group of Born Free travelers all gathered at the Wal-Mart in Deland, FL. The next morning we all left in the continuing rainstorm for breakfast at the Old Spanish Sugar Mill in De Leon Springs. Almost everyone ordered the "make you own pancake " specialty. We then met up at the Orange Blossom Opry in Weirsdale. It was an open mike night but no one got the hook. The house band was great and some of the singers were good enough to perform in Nashville. We stayed the night in the Opry parking lot and the next morning left for the Florida Carriage Museum. This museum surprised some of us. No musty old beat up carrriages here. It's worth a visit if you're ever near Weirsdale, FL. Later that day we arrived at the Olde Mill Stream RV Park in Umatilla, FL. Didn't take long to begin a social hour and dive into a delicious catered barbecue dinner. That night George Boley outdid himself, auctioning off a bunch of white elephants with the proceeds going to charity. Our last morning was spent at the Yalaha Bakery, where else but in Yalaha, FL. We all had pastries to die for while Kim Hightower and her band provided the musical background. As we all departed we thanked Jan and Dean Preston for an outstanding rally despite the unseasonable weather the first night. I have posted pictures of the event on Picasa web albums and hopefully you can get to it by clicking on the link below.
