2013 Florida Oktoberfest Rolling Rally: October 31 - November 3

Gathering in the parking lot of the Orange Blossom Opry in Weirsdale, we spent the afternoon eating and drinking compliments of our hosts Dean & Jan Preston. Meat, cheese and other goodies and Root Beer Floats or Apple Cider were provided.

Halloween evening turned Weirsdale into Weirdsdale. We were entertained by many talented people at the Opry, including Cher, Willie Nelson, and a Mummy. They were accompanied by the Lone Ranger and Tonto, the Great Gatsby and other characters in the wonderful band.

After breakfast Friday morning we headed for the Olde Mill Stream RV Park in Umatilla. Several headed to Mt. Dora, Renninger’s Antiques or the Florida Carriage Museum. The museum is a very interesting step into the past. Late afternoon we gathered at the rally hall for snacks and drinks to whet our appetite for dinner at the Crazy Gator in Eustis. After dinner a delicious dessert was served in the hall and we played games and visited.

Saturday was a free day and our hosts transported us to the Yalaha Bakery. The entertainment was cancelled due to rain, so after making purchases we headed back and stopped at a church bazaar for bargains. Some of us then enjoyed lunch at the Mason Jar.

The Park hosted the Oktoberfest Party in the main recreation hall Saturday evening with an authentic German Band and dancers. Hot dogs, brats, potato chips, pretzels, beer and soda pop were served.

We caravanned to De Leon Springs on Sunday morning. Our hosts transported us to the Old Spanish Sugar Mill for the ”make your own pancakes” breakfast and we had time to tour the museum at the park. Several said their good-byes until the next time but part of the group went boating on the St. John’s River with the Wagner’s.

It was a fun rally of rolling and for some floating!
