Any fillable form can be printed and completed by hand.If you wish to fill out the form on your computer, which does make it a lot easier to read, please keep reading.
The process for filling out a fillable PDF form is the same regardless whether you fill it in in your web browser, or after you've saved it to your computer. (The fields are a lot harder to see in your web browser, but they're there.)
Step 0If you don't have Adobe Acrobat Reader,
click here to get the free download.
Step 1If you downloaded a fillable form to your computer, double-click on it. It should open in Adobe Acrobat Reader.
The following steps work whether you're viewing the form in your web browser or Adobe Acrobat Reader. This post uses the Sample Fillable PDF Form attached to the
Downloading Attachments post.
Step 2Fillable fields will be highlighted in (faint) blue:

Click in any of the fields and begin typing.
Step 3To move from one field to the next, you can move the cursor with your mouse or touchpad, or just press the
Tab key on your keyboard (to the left of the "Q" key):

You should be able to tab from one field to the next, from left to right, top to bottom. (If you ever find a form on this bulletin board in which the tab order isn't logical, email me at
bfadmin-1@bornfreervclub.org. You'll win a free night's stay in your coach in your driveway.)
Step 4Radio buttons
Sometimes you'll have a choice to make. If you should choose only one of the options, you should be presented with radio buttons:

Click on the button or press the
space key to make your choice.

When you tab into a radio button group, you will be taken to the first button in the group. If that's not the choice you want to make, you'll have to make your selection with the mouse.
Step 5Check boxes
If you can choose one or more of the options, you should be presented with check boxes. Check, or press the
space key for, as many as apply.

When you tab into a check box group, you will be taken to the first box in the group. If that's not the choice you want to make, keep tabbing.
Step 6Calculated fields
Sometimes you'll encounter a field that is calculated. There's no way to tell in advance if a field is calculated or not, although if the field is already filled, that could be a clue. If a field is calculated, your entry won't stay after you leave the field.

Step 7Save your changes.
Step 8You can always re-open your form and change any of the values, and then save those changes.
