Back up camera systems

Post by Barbara & Ken »

Some time ago, there was a discussion RE: after market back up camera systems installed on a Born Free. However, I wasn't successful doing a search for this discussion. We need a backup camera system for our Saturn Vue, and I remember that the type of system that some BF owners installed may be the best choice for us.

Please share your info/experience RE: such systems again.

Thanks.

Here are two earlier discussions from this board regarding backup cameras:

Here are a couple of systems at different price points that are highly rated by users:

One last site with lots of backup camera options:

Bill,

Thanks for providing the search links. Unfortunately, none of these systems will work for our SUV. I'll keep searching for vehicle specific systems, especially ones that mount the camera in a license plate frame and a monitor that is installed on the visor.

Yes, that is the site and list of products we were looking at this past weekend. Just thought that I had remembered that a BF owner installed that type of system and hoped for some pro/con feedback.

Last week, I backed into a low brick wall in a parking lot, and damaged the left corner of the bumper and the back side panel of our 2008 Saturn Vue . . . haven't had it quite a year, yet. :x Just thankful it was a wall and not a child!!!

Thanks again for your help and suggestions.

Barbara & Ken,

Were you backing up with your 2008 Saturn Vue toad hooked up?

No. Just backing the Vue from a space in a cramped parking lot.

We use a "license plate" mounted camera on a Lexus RX300. Works great. Purchased ours at Costco and have seen them recently in the automotive area. I think this is the type you're loo9king for.

Thanks. We'll check Costco this week for that possibility, as well. When did you purchase it and do you remember the model info?

Walmart has a VR3 wireless license plate mounted system on their website for $87.75.

We have used ours for almost two years. It is a VR3 (two button). The current model has four buttons (upgrade?) You can find it on the Costco website by searching "camera" in "auto". The price is less than $90 and includes shipping. If I remember correctly, we paid approximately $100 two years ago.

Mel, no mention of camera being waterproof. If it isn't, might not last long. Also, rates poorly by many owners. Many cite reliability issues. See ratings here:
