Antenna and cable reception

Post by TXCorgi »

I have a 2008 27 RSB that has the King Dome satellite with DISH added. The satellite system works like a dream for both the front TV and the back TV. My issue is with the antenna and cable reception for the front and rear televisions. It’s bad to nonexistent on the front television. The front television can never receive as many stations as the one in the back. I suspect that when the King Dome and satellite receiver were installed that the connections for cable and antennae were never quite right.

The setups are fine. I can run the satellite and the antennae together just fine – switching between AV and TV on the front TV and utilizing channel 60 on the back TV. However, the antennae or cable auto scan on the front TV cannot and does not find as many channels as the back TV and the ones they do have in common, the front TV often (not always) has more compromised (static) channels. Based on my last experience, cable picture is worse than the antenna. The front TV is essentially unwatchable on cable and unpredictable on antenna.

So....to make a long story short, Born Free wants to help me resolve this issue. They are suggesting I find an AV specialist in the Dallas area. Being that I am visiting friends in the area, I need a recommendation on where to go to get this connector issue looked at and resolved.

Can anyone recommend a reliable outfit here in the Dallas area?

To help solve this problem you need to get a wiring diagram on how the system is setup. We know that there are 3 sources for signal;
(1) antenna, (2) cable, (3) satellite. At most a typical TV has a pair of inputs RF (Coax Cable) and AV (RCA jacks) This shows why there is a problem 3 sources 2 inputs. From the attached pictures the front TV looks like the RF signal is passing through the satallite receiver and the receiver is on. Try it with the satallite receiver turned off and see if that helps your reception on antenna and cable. Anyway ask for wiring diagram it will help solving the problem much easier. Good Luck

Thank you, Mike&Linda, for your post. It really helped me understand better my issue - which may be no issue at all. I've been assuming that because I can have the satellite receiver on when using the antenna that I can do the same with cable and satellite. Looks like I shouldn't have been assuming. I'm going to hold off running the Born Free into an AV shop until I can do one more test when I'm hooked up to cable again. Again, I appreciate your post - as I do all the posts in the Leap'n Lions. Thank you.
