Has anybody modified inside ladder?

Post by stevek »

On my 22 foot corner kitchen.
With couch folded down/ bed, and the ladder up, I have a hard time going around it.
I have to "jump over" bed.
Has anybody modified their ladder?
To where I can squeeze by the ladder and the folded down couch/ bed?

Your floor plan is different than mine. I cut a couple of inches off the bottom of my ladder to reduce the incline and allow easy passage between the couch (when open for sleeping) and the ladder. The downside is that the table has to be stored so that the ladder will fit properly.

I think I have the same floorplan as Dallas. I like Dallas's idea to make the incline less. I have wondered how you are supposed to use the ladder with the couch open.

I wonder if anyone has ever rebuild a ladder with flat steps...like a step ladder -vs- the round rungs that the aluminum ladder has.....killer on the bare feet at 2am on the way to the potty.

Our ladder was interfering with the front lounge chair of our 2002 26' RB coach. Solved the problem with a redesign of the overhead sleeping arrangement allowing relocation of a modified (shortened) ladder. See the below link. This may be way to drastic an approach for what you are attempting to accomplish. Of course, the twin overhead bed arrangement has several other benefits.

My modification helped with the slippery wooden rungs. I applied the soft side of the 2" wide sticky back velcro to the flat rungs to prevent slipping.

Thanks everybody for all the input.
Will take some pics of my ladder situation when we get home.
On the road right now.
Been gone about 3 weeks, mainly on CA HWY 1 on ocean.
Even drove thru SF and crossed the Golden Gate.
Been watching all the makes and models of the other MHs.
Lots and lots of Lazy Daze.
But...Still have not seen one Born Free. Still looking. :D
