Had trouble with the Pink in winterizing water lines.

Post by stevek »

This is only my second Winterizing. Newbie.
Must of been Air trapped in the lines.
Last year I could see Pink Color in all the translucent water lines.
This year I could NOT.
In the lines, under the couch near the Pump and the big Brass Valve where the Siphon Hose is attached I could not see Pink.

So, what I did was open the 2 drain vales under the couch briefly.
And finally got the Pink to show.

The rest of the procedure went OK. Opened all the faucets and shower until I saw Pink/ cleared air. Flushed toilet until I saw Pink. Used about 1 1/2 gals of Pink.

Any advice/ comments? Thanks.

I guess its OK to have trapped air in the water lines anyway.
Its not going to freeze.
So the theory of seeing Pink in all the water lines maybe is not needed?

Steve,

As you found out, connecting a hose between a supply of pink antifreeze and the input port on the water pump will not result in the pump filling all the water lines with antifreeze. The pump, with a source of antifreeze connected to it, can't push out any water in the lines until you open one at a time all floor drains, all hot and cold faucets, inside and outside shower heads, the toilet and toilet rinse hose. You want to visibly see pink antifreeze come out of each of these outlets before closing one and opening another.

Then you can check all of the visible translucent water lines to verify that all now show a pink color.

Using pink antifreeze in this manner absolutely guarantees that you will not have any water trapped anywhere that could freeze and break something. As, you found out, a Born Free coach can be winterized using 1-1/2 gallons or less of the RV antifreeze.

Thanks Bill.
I added your list of what to "open" to my BF Manual.

Interesting my BF Manual does Not saying anything about opening the Drain Valves when adding the Pink.
But I can see opening these Valves may be needed.
In my case there is 4 drain Valves.
And I had to open the 2 under the couch when adding the Pink.

Moral to the Story for me, is to look for Pink Color in all the lines. Thanks again.
