Interior lights not working

Post by richnwendy »

None of the cabin LED lights will work. Every other electrical works (ac, tv, fans etc.). The light control panel is lit. The shades work. Just got into c/g. Flipped and re-set all circuit breakers. Fuses all appear intact. Suggestions /help appreciated.

While I don't have a 2014 rig nor a lighted light control panel, in other situations generally the power to the switches is also the power that lights the switches or panel. So if you have power to the panel but not the lights, it would imply you're not getting the power to the switches i.e. a common supply line has become loose..something that didn't get tightened correctly during the factory build.

If this is the case you would need to pull the panel and check the connections visually, physically or with a multimeter.

Have you resolved the issue? I have no suggestions other than to try to contact John Trewyn (Red) at Born Free. He and Kyle Anderson are the most knowledgeable about the firefly system. Their emails are Red@bornfreerv.com and kyle@bornfreerv.com. We had a problem with the fantastic fan in the bathroom. The motor would not turn on even though the switch was lit. It was a loose wire in the fan itself, an easy fix. We are all working through these new fangled systems! Please post what the problem was and how it was fixed and good luck!

Rich & Wendy,

Your LED lights are on the + 12 vdc DC power buss whereas the circuit breakers control appliances on the 120 vac power buss so resetting the circuit breakers won't affect your LED lights at all. All DC powered appliances (including your LED lights) are protected by various fuses so if you are sure that the fuse for your LED lights is not blown then I would suspect that that a wire lead for the LED lights going to the back of the fuse panel to the terminal for the LED lights fuse has come loose. If you feel capable, you can remove the mounting screws for the fuse panel and pull it forward enough to check the wire leads going to that fuse terminal. Before doing that however, disconnect the negative terminals to both your house batteries, do not be plugged into shore line power nor have the generator running.

We have a 2014 B/F which had the same problem with the LED lights on or about 12 Oct. After flipping & resetting all circuit breaks. We checked the fuses on the Firefly Fuse Board. We contacted Kim at B/F who in turn contacted a Mr. Miller at Firefly in Middleburg, IN. Mr. Miller called us and asked if there was a green light under the Firefly Emblem which is located in the center of the Firefly Fuse Panel. If this light does not show, there maybe a problem with the Firefly fuse panel.
Check the 5 amp fuse located on the front the Firefly Fuse Panel (located under fuse holder 63, 61 which are empty) and above the Net-Port which Is also empty.
He also had us remove the light switch nearest the fuse panel and pull it out of the wall until a connector was reached and secured outside the wall so that it did not fall behind the wall. We disconnected the light switch from the connector and plug it into the Net-Port. Nothing happened (no lights).
If you feel comfortable to further trouble shoot - remove the 4 screws on the large Firefly panel and remove the panel to locate a loose connection. There are loads, loads of wires behind that panel.
In our cases, there was a problem with the fuse panel which Firefly sent us a new fuse panel and has been replaced and working fine.

Thank you all for replying. These problems are always on the weekend, right? Have tried all we can feel comfortably doing. So now will check with Kim and Firefly, and change our route home (from Ohio to California) to get hands on help from Humboldt or Middlebury. Meantime we bought a Home Depot uplight, have candles , and the glow of tv and stove light. It's all good. Will post outcome when it occurs.

If your lighting fixtures have a local switch it is worth trying it.

Good luck

Ryan Miller at Firefly Integrations got us up and running on interior lights. Took out the G5 fuse panel, and one switch. Tested under load --okay. Reinstalled, all functions restored.
This was similar to re-booting a frozen computer, turned battery disconnect switch to off for 10 seconds. Returned power and unit works. Glad that our travels took us near Middlebury, Indiana, where Firefly is located. Positive experience!

Thank you for posting! We are leaving for 3 weeks this Saturday in the new coach. All information is very helpful. Our 2004 was so simple! But, we love the new one.
