V450 Heating and Cooling

Post by ejf »

I am very disappointed. I turned on the vent the other day and it was blowing hot air. I did research on the internet and I believe the blend door is messed up on it. They said you have to remove the whole dashboard to fix it and that it be a matter of time and it will fail again. Cost will be a couple of thousand dollars. This is a defect in the manufacturing of the V450. I have a 2001 with only 62,000 miles on it. Anyone else faced with this?

ejf,

I assume you are referring to a Ford E450 chassis - not a V450. My 2002 Born Free 26' RSB is built on a year 2000 Ford E450 chassis. If there is a manufacturing defect as you say, it should be showing up in a lot of units out in the field. My unit now has 90,000 miles on it with no sign of the problem you describe.

If the problem is as you describe I have not encountered it and I have 135,000 miles on my 2001.

I had a squirrel chew thru the vacuum line (just behind the battery) and was able to fix it with some heat shrink tubing. It cost me under $2.00 and was about $498.00 cheaper than the Ford dealer quoted me. The hardest part was finding where the vacuum line was open. I had the same problem as you. We have a 2005 E450.
