Alek,

I installed the original Scan Gauge in my Born Free about 10 years ago and use it every trip. The new model Scan Gauge II is somewhat smaller and has some additional features I believe.

I bought one.
After the novelty wore off, I never use it.
Maybe its just me.
Plenty of stuff on my dash/ info/ to look at and keep track of.
My BF is pretty new. Maybe if you had an older unit with lots of miles?

Older coaches don't provide as much information as newer coaches , so the scanguage is handy for them (airtemp , mpg ). Newer coaches can get additional information like Trans temp , and actual coolant temp .

We have an EDGE Insight CTS engine monitor. I added an exhaust probe so we can monitor the exhaust gas temperature (EGT). Since we have a diesel engine, watching the engine vitals is important, particularly EGT, engine oil and coolant temperatures. I can monitor up to 8 items at once, but can select from approximately 20 items. The number of items to monitor depends upon what the vehicle has in its computer system.

The monitor also has the mileage log and performance feature.

I like the diagnostics as well. At least if there is an engine problem, I have a basic idea where to start to diagnose the issue. The monitor gives the diagnostic code number and a brief description of the code. With the code number, you can also research the issue on the Internet.

I had the Scan Gage on my 2003 and liked it until it stopped working. I now use Ultra Gage in my 2015 Born Free. It does similar to Scan Gage but has more features and it is cheaper. Mainly I use it for gallons used, mpg, power level and water temperature. The 2015 Ford E450 displays distance to empty on the dash so this feature is not needed.

I sent one of my Scangauges back for a software upgrade, it was not very expensive. Perhaps you can have yours returned to a functional status. You likely have more than one vehicle to use it in. If nothing else, it is handy for resetting codes when the check engine light goes on in nearly any car less than 15 years old. Or else sell it, after it is repaired.
