5 Star Tuning Group Buy

Post by stevek »

I am debating on joining this group buy?
Wonder if its worth it?
Over at irv2 forum: If they can get 20 people, $430 shipped.

Thanks.

I have a close friend who has an auto shop with a dyno. He tunes diesels on the dyno as most of his business. His opinion of most of these devices on a gas engine is pretty low, particularly in light of the small gains that they typically offer. He's also not a fan of changing the stock air intakes out... despite their claims of more horsepower. He doesn't see the improvements claimed in the testing he's done for customers on his dyno.

So, that's one informed opinion from someone I trust who has the equipment to test the manufacturers claims.

YMMV.

Are you having an issue with your V10? On my BFT, I tow a car over hill, over dale, without any problems, including Rocky Mountain passes, averaging 9.5-10 mpg. My philosophy: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

No, no problems. Runs like a top. Just a little over 10 mpg all the time.
Just curious about 5 Star. It has good reviews.
I think its not so much with better mpg, but different shift patterns/ performance.

Steve,
I recently purchased the unit at the price you mentioned without a group. The shift pattern is what really made a difference...very similarto the results that I experienced years back when I installed a "Banks trans commander" on our F250 diesel PUs. Driving on the east coast interstates our BF always had a problem with the V10 down shifting with the resulting high rpms. Driving the same roads, same speeds (65-70 mph) the shifting issue is gone-much firmer. Fuel consumption still the same, just better performance. Several ford mechanics with E-series vans recommended this product before I got it. So far we have put close to 3,000 miles on the coach since the change.
