window vents

Post by smh1040us »

On my '98 Born Free there is an exterior vent on each of the 2 side windows. The vent allows the window to be opened a few inches to prevent rain from entering.
These vents have become difficult to use as the rubber gasket has become brittle and cracked.
So, does anyone know where I can find the vents to purchase and replace.
Your advice is appreciated.

I believe this is what you are looking for:

Unfortunately, this item appears to have been discontinued. We had them on our 2006 24RB, and they worked well. I don’t know if there are RV salvage yards where you might find replacements.

About a year ago I did an extensive search for these vents. You will note that the Amazon site states they do not have them in stock. Neither did several other web pages where they showed up. I called the manufacturer, MaxxAir. Rep said they no longer make them. One reason I heard recently is that many new motorhomes have jalousie windows.

If you find any let me know. I would really like to find another.

Perhaps a rubber sweep similar to this could be trimmed to replace yours? If you can get the correct spline diameter , the blade portion can be trimmed to what ever width you need fairly easily with razor knife. Your plumbing supply house may carry by the foot, otherwise lots of on line options to try?

Good luck

Mark, your are probably going to have to locate the MaaxAir window vent you are looking for in a RV salvage yard.

I tried a RV salvage yard in Arizona. That’s when I gave up. If anyone sells their BF I will buy these vents. You don’t have to include them in your sale!!!

I just removed one from ours last week because the seals were all cracked and falling off. I plan on reinstalling it after locating some new seals. One side must have been exposed to more sun than the other side because the opposite side is in very good condition. I'll start a search to see what i can come up with after I measure the good one. I really like the vents so they are worth saving.
