My husband and I just purchased a 1989 Born Free President's edition. We cannot find the house batteries as diagrammed in the book. Any help out there?

Linda

If you have a gas engine and a Ford E350 chassis there should be two batteries under the hood the second (house) battery will be on the driver's side of the cutoff van body. If it's a diesel it will be mounted under the body on the driver's side since both of the under hood batteries are used for starting the engine. Hope this helps!

From 1989 owners manual: download/file.php?id=3482

a. GASOLINE ENGINE
The chassis battery is located on the passenger side and operates the
following:
Head Lamps
Turn Indicators
Console Panel Lights
Windshield Wipers
Engine Ignition System
Speed Control
Starter Motor
Backup Light
Exterior Clearance Lights
Tail Lights, Indicator Light, Stop Lights
Cigarette Lighter (dash mount)
Auto Air Conditioner (engine running)
Radio and Stereo

The Coach with gasoline engines (auxiliary) battery is located on the driver's
side and operates the following:
Interior Lights
Interior Roof Fans
Recirculating Toilet
Range Exhaust Fan
Furnace Fan and Start Up
Water Pump
Water Level and Holding Tank Gauge
Power Plant Starting
Safety Detector
Odor Control System
The auxiliary battery is separated from the truck battery during all camping
situations, or any time the chassis ignition is turned off. This operation is
under control of an electronic relay. Its purpose is to isolate the chassis battery
so it will always be charged up and ready to start the engine, and provides
no power to the MotorCoath. (May not apply for all diesel rnodels.)

Our House Batteries.

We have a 1993 Born Free 21 built on a Ford 350. The 2 house batteries are in the second compartment from the from on the driver's side. They are mounted in a slide out drawer.

As covered in an earlier post our battery compartment failed on our trip West, becoming detached from the floor. I posted what happened and our solution. A number of site members responded mentioning the same problem and their solutions.

Linda,

Ir would help if your post signature contained a short description of your Born Free like 1992 Born Free President 21
