Nautilus Retractable Shower Door Install in Born Free 26RB

Post by JeffatJacks »

We recently upgraded our shower with a Nautilus Retractable Shower Door
( https://www.stoett.com/nautilus/ ). The install was pretty straight forward and there are several videos on YouTube covering installation. I will make another post or two to share a few additional images showing how I addressed a few issues unique to installing this shower door in our Born Free shower. These doors are typically installed in a traditional tub/shower opening. With our shower having a bulk head surrounding the shower opening, I had to do a few extra things.

We ordered the 70" X 36" with rounded ends and the nickle finish. We opted for the opaque screen with stripes. They also offer a plain opaque screen. The water on the screen is wiped off when the screen is retracted into its canister. From the Faq page on the Stoett website: "The screen is a nonporous, antimicrobial polyester, and the wiper blade is antimicrobial vinyl". We paid $250.00 before shipping. If anyone would like to make the same upgrade and have any questions after reviewing these posts, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Final post of the install. Sorry for all the pics but I wanted to be as complete as possible. In order to get the side post flush with the shower wall I trimmed the seam molding. I filled the gap with white silicone sealant before installing the post. I also used a few small pieces of foam tap on the backside of the post to account for the small gap near the floor. This is per their installation instructions.

The other two images show my modifications to install the canister inside the shower versus how it would be installed in a normal shower opening. The image with the yellow arrow shows the stripe of rubber foam I attached to the wall side of the canister. Our shower wall was not perfectly flat and I wanted to make sure I had a good attachment. I attached the foam to the adhesive stripe on the canister and then added a strip of high bond attachment tape to the foam.

The image with the red arrow is intended to show and additional row of high bond tape I installed to the rounded edge of the canister that rests against the bulkhead of the shower opening. So in our install we have the canister attached to the wall and the bulkhead versus just the wall. I felt this was necessary due to the less than perfect attachment to the wall due to the wall not being perfectly flat.

Again, if you have any questions, please ask.
