Potential malicious spam email received today

Post by shilohdad »

This morning we got an email from kws@kwslawpc.com, supposedly somebody named Ken W. Smith. It claimed to be a forward of a message from bfadmin-2@bornfreervclub.org. The plain text was something that looked legitimate, but the data was old, old, old. There was a zipped attachment. It was password protected, but the sender gave the password in the open text of the message. I unzipped the file, which was a Microsoft Word document (again, written using a 20-year-old version of Word). When I tried to open the document with a current Word version, I got a warning that it contained malicious macros, so would not open it.

I suspect this is a malicious spam email. Delete it immediately.
