No power from generator

Hey folks,
Looking for some advice about where to check next. We have a 2003 Born Free 24RB with a Generac generator.
I have a new charge controller installed this spring and some batter monitors installed and I noticed when we started the generator last night I was getting no power - nothing to outlets, microwave, or AC, etc..
I check the fuse on the generator and I checked the breaker on the generator and both looked ok.
I then turned the generator off.... and started the engine of the car - I could see in the battery monitor right away the house batteries charging - so I thought the charge control is ok. So I figured this means when the generator was on no power must have been flowing to the charge controller from the generator (anyone think that is an ok assumption ?)
I was not able to check if shore power was working to charge batteries or power AC (I know, this would have been a good test to narrow down things, unfortunately the Born Free is out on a trip for a few weeks right now and I am not with it).
Thoughts?
Wiring from generator to ATS?
The shore power and generator ATS switch?
Or could the generator be running and just not putting out power at all?
Just wondering if anyone has encountered any similar issues in the past and what the causes have been. Thanks!
