Tightening The Sewer Hose Container Cap

Post by Dallas Baillio »

I discovered, by accident, while installing a sewer hose container on my BF a way to tighten the container cap. The cap will loosen and fall out over time. I’ve lost a couple of sewer hoses while driving. Once when I attempted to empty my tanks I was in position at a dump station and had lost the hose! Over time I’ve made adjustments to the cap to secure it but the solution I discovered in easier.

Place the ring around the sewer hose container a few inches from the cap and tighten enough to make the container out of round. By making the container out of round the cap is tightened.

That's a simple solution, but do you have to loosen the hose clamp every time to remove the cap?

When I munched my container I replaced it with a section of 5" vinyl fence post. Also a section of vinyl gutter acts as a slide out tray.

You do not have to loosen it. I like your set up, particularly the slide out tray. On occasion I’ve had the hose slide down inside the carrier and had to stick my arm inside To retrieve it.

I too left a long brown snake somewhere on a forest service road between Medicine Lake and Lava Beds NM about 10 years ago. (I'm so glad I didn't drag it down the I5 for 50 miles or it would have been posted all over the internet forever. However, I feel bad :( for not seeing it happen and trashing such a beautiful, pristine natural area.)

The fix:
With the cap tight in place, drill a small hole diagonally through the edge of the cap and the tube. 'Lock' it in place with a ~6" piece of 12ga copper wire with the ends pulled down to hold it in place. It's an easy fix and not too inconvenient to use.
