In New Mexico the "bread" probably would be tortillas or fry bread with honey. And what about Alabama? Wouldn't that be grits for breakfast? My mother was from Alabama, and she made the best grits. Just remembering it makes me hungry!!

An All American Menu

Barb & Ken,

I got the idea for the menu when we traveled through Chicken, AK and Oatmeal, TX. Last year when we evacuated for Katrina, we passed near Two Egg, FL. That did it. Initially I used my atlas, and found many of the food names there. On the Internet the searching was easier, but some of the communities are unincorporated and do not even appear on state issued maps. I intended that we visit as many of these "food named places" as possible, photographing the highway sign for each. However, the routing would be really eratic. Oatmeal, Texas has an oatmeal box at the entrance to the community. As for the grits, I had them yesterday, with English scones!

What a cute idea to put the "food towns" with their states in a menu. Gotta admit that I completely missed the point. DUH!!

I didn't compleatly miss it, but it did take a while to connect.

Sounds like a great hobby.
