EXPANDABLE FOAM INSULATION

Post by bfadmin »

Larry & Sharon,

I received a call from the Born Free factory today concerned somewhat about your putting expandable foam insulation between these metal plates and the under side of the wood flooring under your Born Free motorcoach. Born Free would consider this modification a potential fire hazard if the insulation used were at all flammable or had certain undesirable thermal transfer characteristics.

They pointed out that those metal plates were actually heat shields placed there to protect the wood flooring against the high heat from the nearby exhaust system components. Depending on the thermal characteristics of the particular type of expandable foam that you used, it could actually cause the wood flooring to rise to an unacceptably high temperature negating the reason the metal heat shields were installed in the first place.
