I have heard that it is difficult to get a camper into the Iowa State fair, as they are usually filled up. My source is someone who works the pork producers grill site. We took ours up to the Spencer fair and found it easy to get parked with electricity for $25/night, if I remember correctly. Not sure what the state fair camping fees would be, does anyone know?

We could stay camped at Born Free and con them into using their shuttle to drive a group to the fair .

Iowa State Fair Campgrounds.

We have camped there twice, but have never succeeded in obtaining a site with electricity. We got a hilltop, relatively flat, grassy spot one year and a side hill, unlevel, grassy spot another. (The fairgrounds are hilly.) Both times we were in overflow. I understand that there is usually room available in overflow. I have heard that the sites with utilities are passed down generation to generation (don't know if that is a joke or not), but these folks spend the duration of the fair camping and have developed a community of friends they see once a year-sort of like Leapin' Lions at Homecoming. Some campers with the registered sites are very creative and build temporary decks, etc., for the duration, then tear down and rebuild the next year.

In our experience as one night campers, we get the grassy sites that are basically just a parking space.

The cost if you are lucky enough to get a site with electricity is $33 per night.
The non-utility site, like we had, is $28 per night.

We won't be attending Homecoming this year due to the date change conflicting with another event.

We're from Iowa and I've never been to the state fair. Gotta get Curt retired so we can take the time and go.. His job is now getting in the way of fun...
