Power Steering Fluid

Post by on a journey »

Hello to all you very helpful people.

I am in the process of becoming an excited Born Free owner. 2004 24RB Ford V10 6.8L, 41,000 miles.

My concern is that the inspection has revealed low power steering fluid...low enough for just the very very end of the dipstick to show fluid.

Is this a red flag?

Inspector said no evidence of a leak.....so where could it have gone?

Thank you very much for helping me!!! Karen

If there was a slow leak then it would end up on the ground. As long as the power steering is still working OK I would not be concerned. Have them add fluid up to the full mark and check the level periodically for loss of fluid.

Did you check fluid level when fluid was hot? It is transmission fluid and expands when hot . Brakes are probably hydro boosted so leak could be around master cylinder .
