Hello again and help ..

Post by marstrings2 »

Hi

Martin and Strings here again. Can't log into our old profile, so posting on a new one. Hope everyone is happy and well.

We're in California at the moment in our 1997 24RB President. Having a couple of problems though and wonder if anyone can help.

Firstly - we've got a gray water leak. The pipe that empties into the gray water tank has severed at the point it passes through the bulkhead. How do you go about fixing this?

Secondly, last night our generator ( Onan 4000 Jenset ) stopped working. It was running smoothly, then suddenely started changing rev speed over a five second cycle before coming to a halt. It will no longer start. It wont fire at all, though the starter motor is turning it over at a healthy speed.

Will give lots of news on our travels soon - but at the moment, short of battery and wifi time.

Alll the best,
Matin and Strings.

As a potential bandaide on the gray water issue (first, would be really nice to know how/why that happened), if you can get to each end of the severed pipe, and have a small hack saw (blade will do by itself if clearance is tight), you can pick up a rubber coupling at most any hardware store (you should fig out the diameter of the pipe so you can select the right size coupler). As the coupler will have two screw bands (one at each end) that you simply tighten with a screw driver, installation will be fairly easy, after you use the hacksaw to give yourself enough room to fit the coupler. Some of these couplers have metal shrouds around them which improve their ability to seal and the amount of stability/support they provide. Once repaired in this fashion, your unit should function normally, although looking at it periodically to check for leaks would be a good idea ~~ Note: there are those who would recommend you get the item repaired using a hard coupling, at some point, although, if a coupling of this nature is installed correctly, and your plumbing is properly supported, and not trying to pull the connection apart, it should last a long time.

marstrings2,

I checked your earlier registration on this forum under the username marstrings and it still shows it to be active. Did you forget your chosen Password? Would you like me to delete that earlier registration if you are going to keep using this second one under the username of marstrings2?

On your generator problem as Bill Crommett notes above, assuming that you have an Onan gas generator, your main fuel tank must be at least 20 to 25% full for the generator to be able to draw fuel from it.

you say that you are in California -- where are you -- are you near to San Luis Obispo? -- ther is a very good generator shop known as " San Luis Power House " - Russ Kimmell is the owner and could fix your generator -- phone 805-543 - 4643

Last year, while driving into a field, I scraped the grey water tank heavily enough to shift it aft and break the pipe coming through the floor above it. If that is the location yours is broken it will require dropping the tank to fix it.

It was a relatively straight forward repair, but required about fours hours of grunting, grovelling and selective prayer words.

Let me know if you could use more detailed assistance.
