Carpet cleaning

What is a proven (best) (?) and recommended way or Company or product to use in cleaning the carpet in the Born Free?

This trip to Montana with rain and very gusty wind and dust camping in the mountains, along with our 2 year old Cairn Terrier, Bailey, (I'm sure my dirty shoes brought in NO dirt whatever!), have shown a visible need for a good cleaning.

I'm thinking an Oreck type dry powder cleaning would be better than a wet or steam cleaning, but we don't have the Oreck carpet cleaner so.....

Any help will be appreciated el - moocho!
