Baseball spring training

Post by Bob Proctor »

My wife and I are planning to go to the Phoenix area in March to see some spring training games. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips?

Bob,

I have attended several spring practice baseball games in the Phoenix area each spring over the last several years. These games are referred to as the Cactus League and you can click on the following website link for further information: http://www.cactusleague.com/.

15 different baseball teams make up the Cactus League so you can attend a variety of different games. See the various stadium locations in the Phoenix area map below.

I have attended games in the following list of stadiums:

1) HoHokum Ball Park
2) Surprise Stadium
3) Goodyear Ballpark
4) Peoria Sports Complex

The Chicago Clubs moved and are now playing in a new stadium this year called the Cubs Park, still located in Mesa, AZ. I attended one of their last games last year in the HoHokum Ball Park.

One suggestion I have if you want to save money on tickets is not to order tickets online because you will pay a significant fee to Ticket Master plus an extra convenience fee if you purchase your tickets that way. Better to go directly to the ticket office at the stadium several days in advance for a particular game that you want to attend.

Perhaps you have already picked camping spot, assuming you are bringing the BF. We have stayed a night or two at one in Tempe, Apache Palms, that is just east of ASU campus. Very nice place for an inner city park and near light rail and expressway system.

Thank you both for your helpful replies. I apologize for my delay in responding, my computer was not working for awhile.
Ralph and Judy, thanks for the campground recommendation.
Bill, do you have favorite among the ballparks you've been too?
