Door freezes shut/ hard to open

Post by stevek »

My BF is in winter storage. Lows are about 10 degrees. No Heat in BF. No people.
The door is hard/ almost impossible to open.
Seems to be frozen at the bottom of the door.
Everything appears to be dry. Any ideas? thanks.

It sounds like there was some condensation in the fridge when you parked it. Leave it until it's warmer. Always leave the fridge door cracked open when you store the coach so it can "breathe." It won't grow mold, rust, or freeze the seal shut that way.

Steve,
We probably have the same Dometic refrigerator and I have been underwhelmed with the plastic trim around the door and the plastic latches. When everything is cold, stuff can get loose, or tight, or whatever. I just sort of move everything around and it will loosen up and be OK for awhile. For sure the doors should be cracked open in storage.
Good Luck,
Ralph

What door? Coach door or Fridge door?

Jack, leave the fridge and freezer open a crack. The newer models have a latch that can leave the doors open a crack but we hung a dish towel over both doors when we parked our 2004 in storage so the doors could not close completely if it was moved. We never had a problem with mold, sticking doors, etc.

Hope you guys are doing well!

Good point. I read Steve's original post and immediately assumed it was the fridge door... perhaps I was hasty!

Steve, if it's the coach door, spray the seal with silicone spray and wipe the excess off. That will keep it from sticking to anything while it's closed. That works for the cab doors as well.

thanks everybody.
And yes, I am talking about the coach door. Sorry for not being clearer.
Plus I do leave my frig door cracked.
Good idea on using silicon spray, I will try that.
