Used Bumper / Part

Post by perleys »

Is there any way to search for a used part like a bumper? I have damaged my 2004 26RSB bumper and was trying to find a used part to replace it?

perleys,

First, I would post your desire for a used replacement rear bumper in the Born Free Coaches or Accessories WANTED section on this forum. Sorry, but I really doubt that you will find one.

Second, call Kim Olson at the factory to see if they can build you a replacement bumper. That is what I had to do several years ago when I damaged my rear bumper.

As a side note, a friend and long time motorhome owner once gave me this sage advice - Nothing good ever happens when you back up a motorhome, always try to move forward only!

Thanks Bill for the suggestion for Born Free. Kim has one all ready for me at about $2000! But no used ones! I read the quote about backing up and do agree! But in my new to me BF I pulled two close to the gas pump and when exiting I was pulling away to the right amd forward and caught it on those lovely red pylons protecting their pumps! I am not sure how to find the previous post that randalrae mentioned.

We damaged our rear bumper about five years ago, and Larry took the coach to a fiberglass specialist who repairs big trucks, and we got a remarkable repair job. We don't remember the cost, but it was a lot less than $2000.

We had our fixed and totally repainted at body shop for $300 about 2 years ago.
At that time I also installed new SS bolts, looks great.

A year ago I backed into my retaining wall and smashed the roadside end of the bumper. A marine repair shop quoted $2100 to repair and paint. A laborer at that facility caught me outside of this place and said he could do it at his home for $1200. I then went to an auto paint and repair who quoted $220. I gave them the bumper and three days later it was as good as new.

Thanks Jim, I just need to get the yellow pages out and call some more auto body shop places. The two RV Semi Truck bus repair places were the $1500 -$2000 range, another body shop told me to buy the new bumper from Born Free which is also about 2 grand, one or two auto repairs I have called say they don't do fiberglass. We don't have any boat repairs in my city. Hopefully I can find someone to do it for less. I did see a pic on the forum where they did a metal bumper so that might on option to explore. Nothing is ever easy!

Assuming you have all the pieces, a you-do-it repair would only cost you some resin and fiberglass from NAPA - less than a $100. Give it a try , it's not rocket science.

Plan B: put a request on Craig's List for a local with experience in frp work.
