Solar Wiring

Post by pjohnson6214 »

I recently purchased a 24' FL 2017. Can someone tell me where to find the wiring for the Solar Panel. I am thinking about adding one.

I would love it if there was wiring already installed. I want to put solar on as well.

I did not know the newer models of Born Free were prewired for Solar.
Does anybody know this to be true or not?

I don't think they were pre-wired for solar. As far as I can tell our 2017 Spirit (24 RB) is not. Perhaps the original poster has at least one solar panel and wants to add another.

I'm sure Born Free motorhomes are not prewired for Solar.
I did my own (2013 25' RB or Triumph) with a kit from AM Solar in Springfield, Oregon. Very complete kit with great instructions. I'm an aircraft mechanic by trade and like doing things like this.
They can do the installation if you wish.

My 2013 has a solar panel, though I don't think BF did it, one of the PO's most likely. It uses a Sunforce controller, 12V 10 Amp. One panel on top, the wires are routed through the fridge vent so no holes in the roof, down the back and through the fridge compartment floor then through the bottom of the coach. It maintains the coach and chassis batteries. I like it more than I thought I would, I can use any electrical except a/c of course without shore power and the batteries don't lose charge. Be high on my list of preferred options. Electric hot water tank might be too much as haven't tried that yet but 10 amp might cover it.

I mounted panels on the side of my coach. Panels can be tilted or removed and set out in the sun. I ran wire through the side of the coach behind the microwave then down to where the converter is.

This coach is such an easy coach to run that solar would be a huge advantage. I had ordered my new coach with it so it seems as though I will be looking at AM solar again. I put three of their panels up on my 99 Foretravel when I first bought it in 2001.
